Grantee Spotlight
Raritan Valley YMCA
Funder: New Jersey Division of Disability Services
Poor diet and sedentary habits among the physically challenged contribute to obesity and chronic health issues. This fact is often overlooked by community support and social groups that serve seniors, veterans, and the disabled. To set the foundation for healthy eating, the YMCA will promote policy change for meetings and events to providers of services to the elderly and physically disabled. Although most senior and veteran groups are not meeting during COVID-19, this period will be used to draft a position paper that calls for policy creation and a change in menu selection. Partners include: Saint Peter's University Hospital, Rutgers University public health majors, Healthier Middlesex Coalition

Funder Highlight
Partners for Health Foundation
NJHCN funding partner - Partners for Health Foundation - co-presented HUNGRY TO LEARN during the Montclair Film Festival, a documentary about hunger on college campuses. HUNGRY TO LEARN tells the story of four college students facing hunger and homelessness and how their dreams of success, college degrees, and food security at school remain just beyond their reach.
