Happy Friday!!

Although it's hard to believe, we have already completed three and a half weeks of school!  And, it is with great excitement that we share some of the highlights from the early parts of our year.

Our theme for 2018-19 is FVSD Driven! For us, this means a lot of things, including a commitment to: high expectations for all; working collaboratively to improve practices and meet future challenges; dedicating ourselves to professional learning; and, working to ensure that ALL students meet or exceed expectations. In addition, we continue to work on our District's five priorities: Improved Academic Achievement, Caring and Collaborative Culture, Communication, Fiscal Responsibility and Facilities -Modernization. Furthermore, we have included a section on the Raptor Visitor Management System, which is the same letter shared with families earlier this week.

As always, thank you for all you do to support teaching and learning.

Kindly,
Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

VIDEO: Watch to see why FVSD is such a special place!
FVSD Video Link
This year, we had an opportunity to capture some of what makes Fountain Valley School District so special and share it in a video.  As our Superintendent, Dr. Mark Johnson explains, "That program that you want for your student, robotics, STEM, instrumental music, band, etc., you can find it in your local schools."  Learn more and view the video here
SAFETY NEWS: Letter sent home to families updating on new Visitor Sign-in Procedures coming to all sites
Raptor Parent Letter
As described in a letter home to all families earlier this week, the Fountain Valley School District is pleased to announce that we will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of our schools this fall.  The Raptor System will screen visitors and volunteers in order to provide a safer environment for all students and staff members.  More information and a copy of the letter sent home can be found here.  Beginning Monday, November 5th, all sites will be activated, requiring visitors, contractors and volunteers to check-in through the system.  Thank you for your understanding and support as we implement improved safety measures throughout our District this year!
HIGHLIGHT: Classrooms are full and support is strong at great Back to School Nights in FVSD!
BTSN 2018
Back to School Nights at both our elementary and middle schools were extremely successful.  Staff was thrilled to share their classrooms with parents, while also discussing the exciting activities to come this year.  And classrooms at all sites were packed with eager and engaged families.  The chance to open our doors to our parent community at Back to School Night is truly a highlight of the beginning of the school year!
MEASURE O UPDATE: Construction at Courreges and Masuda

Construction Update September 2018

It was a busy summer as construction for our Phase I schools, Courreges Elementary School and Masuda Middle School, began in late June 2018.  Since shovels went into the ground at both sites, crews have successfully completed Phase I, which includes air conditioning, new paint and flooring in the administrative buildings, Masuda library and media center and Courreges staff lounge.  In addition, staff restrooms at Courreges were expanded.  Also, the Nurse's office at Masuda was modernized and now has a larger restroom.  We continue to be excited at the rapid progress at both sites, and moreover, are grateful to our community for their ongoing support of Measure O!  We look forward to providing further updates as we continue to make improvements to the learning environments for students and staff.
TAG IT!:  #FVSDDriven #WeHeartFVSD
FVSD Driven
As noted above, our theme for 2018-19 is FVSD Driven!   We hope that you will join us in documenting how you are "FVSD Driven" by capturing the amazing moments in our schools and tagging your photos on social media  #FVSDDriven #WeHeartFVSD.
