NJROTC
U.S. Navy Junior ROTC

Three CCHS NJROTC cadets logged actual flight time in a Piper Seneca aircraft at Young Eagles Day - https://youngeaglesday.com/?yehome - held Saturday, September 22, at Orlando Executive Airport. The purpose of Young Eagles Day is to provide an opportunity to experience flying at no cost to the participant. The three cadets who attended the Young Eagles Rally were Anabel Gomez, Marcos Cortes-Goetz, and Zack Ortiz. Each cadet flew a short flight around the Orlando area and gained an appreciation for piloting, flying, and busy airports. If you are interested in experiencing the thrill of flight, click the link above to explore upcoming events.

Academics
U.S. History with Ms. Stapleton

Ms. Stapleton's class takes the first steps in a Reconstruction simulation. Students have to take on the role of an influential group or person during the Reconstruction Era, determine what that group wanted to accomplish, and then convince the others that their plan is the best.

Student Spotlight
Nicholas Nguyen (Class of 2019)

IB Senior Nicholas Nguyen earns a "Bear Pride" coin for his campus beautification project. Nick, along with his scoutmaster and troop members from Boy Scout Troop #996, worked tirelessly to clean, plant, and mulch the grounds of our campus. Thanks to Nick, and his family, Cypress Creek now has two on campus Cypress trees to represent our namesake!

Quiz Bowl Team
A recap of match #1 vs. Bishop Moore and First Academy . . .

On September 24th, your Quizzly Bears traveled to Bishop Moore in a battle of Catholic schools as we faced the host school as well as First Academy. This year's squad is young and hungry but we are learning the ropes as we go. College visits and extracurricular conflicts led to a skeleton crew of four making the trek, but even outnumbered we showed that we can hang with the private schools. The first match was a trial by fire, as First Academy jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning 155-105. The second match was much more thrilling. The home squad jumped out to an early lead only to lose buzzer control in the second half and allow our squad to turn a 55 point deficit into only 15.  A strong flurry of questions at the end from our own "Young Sheldon," Conor O'Malley, allowed us to climb within a single question.  But alas, it was not meant to be as we got tripped up by everyone's favorite summer reading assignment, the Communist Manifesto. We ended up falling in a heartbreaker, losing by a single question and a final score of 110-105. A single tear was shed and preparation began for next week.

Our MVP of the match was the "Walking Encyclopedia," Ajay Narain, who had to temporarily step into the captain role and contributed 20 points of positive gain as well as coordinating both matches and teaching the new players the ropes.

Next week will be tough as we have two of last year's powerhouse playoff squads, Winter Park and Timber Creek, coming to visit us for our first of two home matches. Hopefully the home cooking will help us pull of at least one upset and secure our first victory of the year.

The following students made the trip to Bishop Moore last Monday.  Be sure to congratulate their effort if you see them.

* Ajay Narain - filling in as team captain
* Conor O'Malley
* Landon "the Man-don" Nayab
* Mitchell "Onomatopoeia" Spector
