Sept. 6 - Sept. 12
The borough’s got talent! Flushing Town Hall hosts  a celebration of local art, music, and dance   on Sept. 7. The fun begins with a gallery show curated by Long Island City Artists. Then the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company kicks off a series of dazzling performances by contemporary and cultural troupes, followed by a talkback with the choreographers.
José has a tough decision to make. The Museum of the Moving Image presents four screenings of the new film “ En el Séptimo Día ” this weekend. The latest feature from director Jim McKay follows undocumented Mexicans in Brooklyn. They're bicycle delivery guys, dishwashers, deli workers, construction workers, and cotton candy vendors. But on Sundays, they play soccer.
There’s a special section this week as the 2018 Queens Council on the Arts grant winners kick off their project presentations. Thus, short plays, a sound project, Indian music, and visual art by local talent add spice to a calendar that includes dance, foraging, opera, and tours. Queens Tourism Council has an official foodie. His name is Joe DiStefano, and he edits the Chopsticks and Marrow blog, which informs on local dining. In this post , Joey D heads to an LIC eatery for a "fancy pants" patty melt. A juicy, grass-fed beef patty topped with caramelized red onions, and housemade queso with chunky slices of well buttered and browned brioche.
Queens Instagram Photo of the Week
There's great tennis at the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows Corona Park right now. But the information on borough restaurants, hotels, and culturals is even better. This photo depicts volunteers at the Queens Tourism Council's kiosk, located between Ashe and Armstrong stadiums. Stop by for guidebooks, tote bags, flyers, and other free items.
