CONGRATULATIONS PTA SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS!
$22,000 Awarded!

Westlake Council of PTAs and its member PTA units are proud to announce 22 recent Westlake High School graduates as recipients of the 2018 PTA scholarships! Since 1968, we have awarded  scholarships to deserving Westlake High School seniors who plan to pursue higher education at a college, university, or technical school. We fund these scholarships in many ways, including the annual Dollars for Scholars basketball game event, membership drives, and programming.

The recipients of this year's scholarships exhibited academic success, as well as community and/or school involvement through participation in athletics, music, clubs, service and employment. Each recipient received a $1,000 award from the respective PTA unit, totaling $22,000 in scholarships awarded.

REFLECTIONS UPDATE

Reflections is a PTA-sponsored creative arts program open to students in pre-K through grade 12. Congratulations to everyone who participated!

Ohio PTA Award Recipients
This year, three of our Reflections participants earned awards from the Ohio PTA: Alia Manaf's 'An Awesome Figure Skater' earned an Award of Merit in Literature (Primary Grade Division), Christine Xiao's 'Spring' earned an Award of Merit in Music Composition (Intermediate Division), and Aidan Scheuer's 'Fluid Dynamics' earned an Award of Excellence (first place) in Music Composition (Middle School Division).

National PTA Award Recipient
Aidan Scheuer's entry advanced for competition at the National PTA level. Aidan, a student at Lee Burneson Middle School, received an Award of Excellence from the National PTA for his Music Composition entry which features violin and electronics. What a tremendous accomplishment for this young composer!

ELEMENTARY PTA TRANSITION TEAM UPDATE

Representatives from all four Westlake elementary PTA units and Westlake Early Childhood PTA are working together with school administration to design the new elementary PTA unit.

Throughout the year we have surveyed parents, teachers and community members to gain input; we have consulted with other PTAs that have gone through similar transitions; we have solicited recommendations from current PTA unit chairs.  We have used this feedback to help us develop recommendations for our new PTA.
  • One of the key decisions we've made is that there will be one PTA for the new school with one president. We plan to have VPs to represent each "house" in the new school as well.
  • We have put together processes for staff grants and for the inaugural year nominating committee.
  • Currently, we have teams developing recommendations for finance/treasury, fundraising, communications, school events, and more.
If you have questions or if you are interested in helping design the new PTA, please contact Sarah Camden, Elementary PTA transition team chair, at sarah.camden@yahoo.com or your PTA unit representatives.
