NAPE Pipeline Press
NAPE news
Dear NAPE Pipeline Press Family,

I am very pleased to greet you in my new role as NAPE CEO. I first became a member of this Virtual Learning Community called the "Pipeline Press" when I was a volunteer in the NSF-funded STEM Equity Pipeline Project in Ohio in 2009. This community, of which each of you is a part, is now more than 9,500 people-strong with teachers, faculty, counselors, advisors, administrators, state leaders and staff, nonprofit representatives, partners, equity and social justice advocates, and business and industry leaders who care about access, equity, and diversity in education and careers. We value your participation and welcome your input into our work.

There are many exciting things happening this fall. The new Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) was signed into law on July 31, 2018, and NAPE launched a new webpage earlier this month to showcase resources and activities focused on helping states and local education agencies in planning for and implementing the new law. The Equity Provisions Summary was recently updated on 9/17.

This fall, we will collaborate with Advance CTE, ACTE, and the American Association of Community Colleges in four Perkins V Regional Planning Meetings, which will occur around the country between late October and early December. These meetings will be an important opportunity for state directors and their teams to learn about the new law, collaborate with partners and peers, and begin to map out their transition plans. NAPE Program Manager Janay McClarin and I will participate in each meeting, and we look forward to seeing you and your colleagues there!

Thank you for your participation in this community, and thank you for the work that you do. I look forward to our continued collaboration. Please email us at nape@napequity.org if there is more that we can do to serve your needs.

Warmest regards,

Ben
Lead for equity in Perkins V

On September 18, Ohio educators and leaders in secondary, community and technical colleges, and adult education joined state leaders and representatives for a day full of professional learning focused on leveraging the equity provisions in the new Perkins V legislation to increase student access and educational equity in high-quality. high-sklil, high-wage, in-demand career pathways through career and technical education. "Lead for Equity in Perkins V" was facilitated by NAPE team members Ben Williams, PhD, CEO and Ricardo Romanillos, EdD, Director of Professional Learning.

Thank you to the Ohio Department of Education's Office of Career-Technical Education, with support from Ohio Department of Higher Education, for this exciting opportunity to engage local and state leaders in early Perkins V planning with a focus on equitable access and outcomes!
