There are still seats available at the annual CALS Honorary Recognition banquet and ceremony. Please join us!

The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Varsity Room at Union South. This year, we celebrate the accomplishments of Daphne BS'81 and Lloyd BS'80 Holterman, Anna Maenner, David Rhoda, and Timothy Young BS'79 MS'83. The awards program will highlight their outstanding service to their communities, their chosen fields, and the citizens of the state, nation, and world. Please register in advance.

Celebrate Curiosity across Wisconsin

This year's Wisconsin Science Festival, a four-day, statewide celebration featuring events for all ages, will be held Oct. 11-14.

Numerous CALS faculty, staff, and students will host sessions for science enthusiasts of all ages during the festival, from interactive exhibits to hands-on workshops to demonstrations, and more. Find out what's scheduled in your area.
New App Saves Farmers Time and Money

A new tool called SilageSnap, developed through a collaboration between CALS and the UW College of Engineering, could help farmers make the most of their fall feed-corn harvest and keep cows happier and more productive all year round.

"It all comes down to data," says Brian Luck, assistant professor of biological systems engineering and extension machinery systems specialist. "How much data can people gather to assess their operations and maximize efficiency?"

Come Home and Help Fill the Hill

Please join us for UW Homecoming festivities to be held Oct. 19-20.

The weekend includes the annual parade on the night of Friday, Oct. 19, and concludes with the Badger football game against Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 20. Also on Oct. 19, Bucky wants you to help "Fill the Hill" -- Bascom Hill, that is -- with flamingos by making a gift in support of CALS.

The pink plastic birds are a throwback to a 1979 prank, but today they represent gifts made to the UW in a 24-hour period. We encourage you to make a gift to the CALS Fund to support the college's highest priorities -- student experiences, research programs, and faculty support. Your gift will help fill the hill!
World Dairy Expo Reception Oct. 3

If you plan to be in the area or, better yet, at World Dairy Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 3 please join CALS and Cooperative Extension at a reception from 4-6 p.m. The event will be held in the Monona Room of the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wis.

This is a great opportunity for CALS alumni to reconnect with former classmates, faculty, and staff, and to meet current students. RSVPs are encouraged.
Graduating More in Four

Did you know? Earning a degree at UW-Madison takes an average of just over 4 years -- 4.03 to be exact. Through strong undergraduate advising, internships, clinical placements, and summer offerings, UW keeps its students on track to graduation.

The new Working for Wisconsin campaign is looking to correct common misperceptions about UW's admissions, affordability, and employment of its graduates. We'll share a new fact with you here each month. You can also visit the Working for Wisconsin website now to learn more for yourself. Please feel free to share widely and help us bust those myths!
