Vinyl records are making a comeback. Musicians from all genres are offering them, and fans are buying. Paper notebooks from companies like Moleskine and Detroit-based Shinola have been hot for more than a decade now. In our so-called paperless society, paper is popular again. There has been steady growth in indie bookstores-the brick-and-mortar variety-and recent studies show new stores being opened and entrepreneurship becoming more creative.
So, what are we to make of this renaissance of physical things-analog products and services that were supposed to dissipate into the ether with the advent of digital media? Lunch and fun to follow!
Unity Service on September 30th! A time for folks to gather and worship together as Grace Episcopal Church in one service. There are folks we have not seen because they attend another service, folks whom we have never met because they attend one of the other services. This service will be a bit different than usual. The sanctuary will be filled with the sights of our ministries here at Grace. During the sermon time we will have the opportunity to move around and learn about the various ways we can engage our gifts and skills with the opportunities for service at Grace. A Ministry Fair allows us to explore. No need to sign up for a lifetime. I encourage folks to try something new each year or two. We often need to rest from ministries that we have been doing for years as a way to allow the Holy Spirit to inspire us to move in different directions and for the Holy Spirit to move through the ministries in new and exciting ways. This is a day to explore, question, discern and to dream. During lunch you will have an opportunity to gather with friends, meet others, talk about what excites you and learn from others what excites them, laugh together, and eat good food. Join us for this exciting worship service and time to break bread together.
Social Media Sunday on Sept. 30
 In 2013, in an effort to inspire congregations and people of faith to share the Good News through modern communications channels, a group of Episcopalians came up with the very first Social Media Sunday - a day set aside to remind folks to share and engage in conversations of faith wherever they go, even Facebook!
While you can (and should!) do these things every Sunday, I encourage you to think about posting photos, sermon quotes, quick videos, selfies (anything!) on whatever social media you may use. Add on "#SMS18" so that others from around the world can see your participation in the effort. There are a ton of resources being shared from around the Christian church for Social Media Sunday, like the special Facebook Group at groups/SMS15/. If you have any questions or would like to share your congregation's plans, contact Katie Forsyth, Diocesan Canon Missioner for Evangelism & Networking.

 reading the Bible, using the book
The Bible Tells Me So - Why Defending Scripture Has Made Us Unable To Read It by Peter Enns. This is a hands-on, learn by doing, open discussion class, and any questions about the Bible are fair game. Join us for six Wednesdays for potluck and lively discussion.
Great Courses Christian History
Study and discussion continues thru Oct. 9

Join us in the comfortable living room at Jubilee House, get a cup
 of coffee and learn and discuss together our Christian History from the "Great Courses" (Teaching Company) DVD's that Marilyn Johnson has so generously provided for us.
The Great Courses are academic courses taught by some of the best college professors in the country.
Unity Service Sun., Sept. 30 at 10am
No Sat. 5pm or Sun. 8am services will be held that weekend. We will have a parish picnic after the 10am service. Please join us!
Pastoral Care meeting Oct 4 at 9:30am
All those interested in working on developing our pastoral care ministry at Grace are welcome to join us in the parish hall.
Blessing of the Animals Oct 7 at 4pm
Meet in the Grace parking lot for our annual Blessing of the Animals service. All well-behaved pets are welcome. Please be sure your special friends are on a leash, a lead, or contained in an appropriate carrier. We will reschedule if it is raining.
Women's Book Group Oct 8 meeting is CANCELLED
We will resume in November.
Adopt-A-Highway Oct. 13 at 9am
Please come out and help us pick up Grace Church's Adopt-A-Highway section. We will be cleaning up the roadside on Saturday morning, October 13. Please plan to meet at the Applebee's Restaurant parking lot at 9:00am to sign-in and receive a short safety briefing. Bags will be provided but please bring gloves if you have them. You can work as long or as briefly as you want. Please call Chris Johnson at 640-2472 to let him know you can help. We need you! Thank you.
CROP Walk Sunday, Oct. 14
check in begins at 1:30pm at Civic Center
Did you know that Grace was the first church in Traverse City to be a participant in the CROP Walk? This year we would like to see many participate! There will be a table in the Commons each Sunday from Sept. 23rd until the morning of Oct. 14th with information & sign up sheets. We look forward to everyone being part of this worthy cause, which helps the hungry all over the world as well as locally & our own Food Pantry.

Oleson's Community Share Program
Here's how it works:
- You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
- Turn in your receipts to the church. Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
- We submit receipts back to Oleson's
- We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)
For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry. Every little bit helps!
