The Wild Side:
What can you do for Wildlife?

Did you know that thousands of animals are injured or killed every year from litter? Carelessly disposed of items like balloons, cigarette butts, and plastic bags can be mistaken for food items by wildlife. Animals can get their head or body stuck in food containers or plastic six pack rings.

One of the main litter culprits is monofilament fishing line.  Monofilament fishing line is very strong and can last 600 years in the water! Once an animal becomes entangled in the line it is nearly impossible for them to break it or untangle themselves from it. If they do not choke themselves trying to break free, they may suffer a slow death from starvation or swallow the fishing line along with a hook and suffer internal injuries.

Each spring and fall Lake Crabtree offers an opportunity to help our local wildlife, as well as an opportunity to give back to the community, by cleaning up litter around the shores of the lake. Why not join us in keeping Lake Crabtree a safe place for wildlife, by participating in our Fall Big Sweep event on Saturday, October 6, from
9:00 am to noon. This event is for ages 5 and up. Visit our website to register.
