A MOMENT WITH THE PRESIDENT

JOIN AN ELITE GROUP: THE BUSINESS OWNER
Owning your own business is hard, time consuming and sometimes lonely. It is also considered to be one of the biggest financial risks one can take. Even though most have dreamed of owning a successful business, many simply cannot fathom taking the leap. There is a very true and very real trade off. Taking a job with a company provides a certain amount of security and benefits. You go in, day in a day out, doing your job to the best of your ability and a guaranteed paycheck is provided. But is it?
More and more these days, job security is scarce and big company health and longevity is no longer a sure thing. Unfortunately, the days of joining a good company and retiring 30 years later with a healthy pension is very rare. I had an SMU professor ask the following questions: Do you feel your job is 100% secure? What would you do if you lost your job? Is your job providing you and your family with a good quality of life?
These were exactly the thought-provoking questions I needed to stir up my entrepreneur spirit. After a lot of soul searching and planning, I resigned from my corporate banking job and opened my business three years later. The next eight years were filled with ups and downs, but it was one the most rewarding experiences of my life. I sold my business in January of 2015 and by July, I was fortunate to take my current position as President/CEO of the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. I love my job and as former member of this elite club, I find it very rewarding helping businesses succeed.
Here in Fort Worth, that entrepreneurial spirit is running rapid. In fact, we will be recognizing five local companies with our Milestone Award at our upcoming Five Pillar Lecture Series focused on Economic Development. This award specifically highlights local businesses for their invaluable service and contribution to our Fort Worth economy. Please join us as we congratulate them on being selected as a recipient of our inaugural award. It is the strength and growth of our local businesses that make Fort Worth a great city.
