May 17, 2018
Team members at Samuels Elementary gathered for last year's virtual Our DPS Day. On Aug. 16, you'll have the opportunity again to connect with other members of Team DPS for the 2018 Our DPS Day!
Save the Date for Our DPS Day, Aug. 16
Our DPS Day is an annual values-based event for all members of Team DPS to gather and connect to our shared work, to each other, to our Shared Core Values and to our vision, Every Child Succeeds. Last year, we expanded Our DPS Day to every member of the district by going virtual. We're excited to once again connect virtually with all members of Team DPS for the 2018 Our DPS Day! On Aug. 16, all teams are encouraged to participate in an interactive viewing session and share their voices as the entire district is connected for an hour.

On Wednesday, an Outlook calendar invitation was sent to all team members to hold this date and time. More information will be shared with school leaders and managers to help arrange the viewing sessions and activities for each team. It will take all of us to reach our vision, Every Child Succeeds, and we all have a role to play. Join Team DPS from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Aug. 16 to kick off the school year ready to do our part to bring our vision to reality. Questions? Email [email protected]

Top 5: A Big Win from the School Year
The end of a school year is an excellent time to reflect on our accomplishments -- and there's so much we have to be proud of this year! You shared your big wins with us; the Top 5 are below, and congratulations and well wishes to our giveaway prize winner, Kathleen Hill in Extended Learning and Community Schools.

5. "One big win for me was when the final novel in my five-book fantasy/sci-fi series was published in February! It was the third book in my series to hit the bestseller list.  I started writing in high school and found later in life how much I missed it." -- Sue Loeffler, Sabin World Elementary

4. "A big win for me this year has been co-teaching with Sonia Williams. We were asked last year to pilot co-teaching for ELD and Language Arts, and we have had nothing but success. Our students have given us feedback that they enjoy having two teachers in the room, and they feel like they are able to learn more because of the feedback they receive from two different perspectives. Sonia and I have both said to each other multiple times, 'This has been my best year in the classroom.'" -- Adam Creapo, Hill Campus of Arts & Sciences

3. "My big win is taking and completing the courses that DPS offers secretaries on Lynda.com.  They helped me in a tremendous way. Thank you, DPS, for encouraging secretaries to take these courses!" -- Jamie Castillo, Centennial Elementary

2. "This year, I took advantage of the DPS Employee Assistance Program, so I was able to see a therapist for free! Working in a school is difficult, so I'm happy I was able to deal with my stress instead of burning out!" -- Katherine Pietrafeso, Park Hill Elementary

1. "In February of 2017, I was diagnosed with terminal Leukemia and told I had less than a year to live; 15 months later, I am still breathing and showing up to a job I LOVE!  My work with DPS and the Department of Extended Learning and Community Schools and my passion for doing all I can to put Students First gets me up every day and keeps me going. This is my life's work and I am grateful for every day I have to make a difference in childrens' lives!" -- Kathleen Hill, Extended Learning and Community Schools
