Dear San Marino Unified Staff, Students, Families, and Community,

In keeping with our commitment to providing important breaking news on COVID-19, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge today's news related to COVID-19 and Los Angeles County's declaration of a health emergency. California, LA County and COVID-19 News Facts
  • This afternoon, California announced a state of emergency following the first COVID-19-related death in Placer County, California, with more information on this development accessible here . 
  • California is working around the clock to keep our communities safe, healthy, and informed.
  • Most cases of COVID-19 exhibit mild or moderate symptoms, with those particularly vulnerable to developing more serious illness being the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
  • As of today, six new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in LA County. 
  • These cases are not a result of "community spread," meaning that LA County health officials are able to trace back to where these patients were exposed to COVID-19. Also, none of these cases were linked to the first COVID-19 reported back in January of this year.
  • During its press conference today, LA County advised that its declaration of a local emergency was done to enhance the County's ability to effectively manage a swift response.
San Marino Unified's Continued Commitment
  • We will continue to remain informed and keep our staff, families, and community informed.
  • We are continuing to work daily with our City of San Marino officials, LA County Office of Education, Department of Public Health, as well as other school districts and state and national agencies, as we all work as quickly and thoroughly as possible to support each other's efforts in establishing a clear plan of action should school closures become necessary. 
  • We will continue to take any precautionary measure we are able to in doing our part to help keep COVID-19 at low risk of impacting our community.
What Our Staff, Students, and Families Can Do to Stay Healthy
  • Continue to practice healthy habits . Here are those listed in today's LA County Department of Public Health news release:
  • Stay home if you are sick. Sick people make well people sick.
  • If you have mild symptoms, there may be no need to go to a medical facility to see a doctor.
  • Certain patients, such as the elderly, those that are immune compromised or have underlying health conditions should call their doctor earlier.
  • If you have questions, please call the clinic or your doctor before going in. If you do not have a healthcare provider, call 211 for assistance finding support near you.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Get immunized against the flu to protect yourself and your family, and reduce the potential strain on the healthcare system, which may be impacted by COVID-19 concerns.
  • Stay informed through trusted sources . We will continue to provide updates as we have them. You may also continue to stay informed through these important factual resources:
