Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Shane Woolever will join a small group of dedicated supporters of LSSU as a member of the Classic Circle June 14. Woolever founded Greater Peninsula Orthopedics in 2001 and committed his business as the title sponsor of the Lake State Golf Classic for eight years. He has also been a member of the Laker Club and a Laker Loft holder for many years. Dr. Woolever was honored by the LSSU Alumni Association in 2008 with the Donald and Catherine Finlayson Award.

There is still time to sponsor or play in the Lake State Classic, scheduled for June 14 at Wild Bluff Golf Course in Bay Mills.
 
Glen Miller Band to Perform at LSSU Arts Center July 23


The Arts Center presents the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, performing big band and swing hits with a unique jazz sound on July 23 at 7:00 pm. Veterans and members of the armed services are eligible for a special $10 ticket.

There are 439 students who earned Dean's List designation for spring semester 2019, which requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5.  Please join the Provost's Office in recognizing these students for their achievements.

ALUMNI SUCCESS STORIES
Jeffrey D. Briggs '78,
a writer and journalist, has been writing about the Seattle waterfront since he moved onto his sailboat thirty years ago. He now lives on land with his wife and dog and can often be found on the shores of Puget Sound, wondering what secrets lie hidden beneath those cold waters. "Out of the Cold Dark Sea", his debut novel, is the first book of his Seattle Waterfront Mystery series. Published by Water's End Press, it is currently available in both ebook and print through Amazon. Find out more at his website, jeffreydbriggs.com .

Joe Block '18 gave a presentation about migratory birds  and led a birding tour along the boardwalk in Manistique recently. The event was sponsored by the Schoolcraft Conservation District. Joe has a bachelor's degree in conservation biology from LSSU.

Clayton Beddoes '94
is the head coach of Team Italy, which participated in the IIHF World Hockey Championship recently. Beddoes was a part of Lake State's 1992 and 1994 national champion hockey teams, serving as team captain his senior year. From 1994 and 1997 he bounced back and forth between the Boston Bruins and their AHL affiliate in Providence. He began coaching in Germany and later moved on to the Italian pro league. He became head coach of the Italian national team in 2017.
