Volume 21 . Issue 11 . November 2020
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Susan Dollar

We did it! Yes, we lost some of the battles, but we won the war.
We also learned a lot...about ourselves, about our fellow citizens, about what we did well and what we can do better in the future. It's such an incredible relief to know that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be in the White House in January - the start of a new year and hopefully, a new era in American politics. I'm sure you are all as relieved as I am to not only see the end of the Trump presidency but also to look forward to positive change.

We've made tremendous strides in getting out the Democratic vote; in 2012, only 3,043 Democrats in Kendall County turned out to vote for Obama. This year, 6,008 Democrats showed up at the polls to vote for Biden! A huge debt of gratitude for this increase goes to Kevin Henning, Laura Bray, Luke and Julie Rosenberger, and Becky Strain, as well as all the precinct chairs and the dozens of volunteers from KCDP and BAD that made this happen. This team effort is to be applauded - thank you all!

We've had some good times together over the course of all the campaigns! Lot of new friendships were formed along the way - friendships that we can build on in the coming months and years to carry on the progressive movement towards equality and justice for all. Our fight must continue. There is still so much work to do, especially here in Texas. I look forward to the days - after the pandemic is under control - when we can get back together in person to celebrate the wins, analyze the losses, and make plans for the future. Until then, I wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
WE DID IT!

OCTOBER 8 BAD MEETING RECAP

This month’s speaker was Staci L. Decker, Elections Administrator for Kendall County. Staci demonstrated the new voting system that was purchased for the November election. A big thanks goes to Luke Rosenberger for helping with our technology glitches!!
We try to put a lot of helpful and meaningful things in our newsletter. Today, I am able to write about the phone call I made this morning to my 9 year old granddaughter to say - "We have our first woman vice president."

General Election rules for the Texas Ethics Commission require General Purpose PAC’s (BAD is classified as such) in Texas to submit additional reports prior to the election. Thirty Day and Eight Day Prior Reports were filed in October which detail all contributions we have received since July 1 and all expenses including donations to candidates and Get Out the Vote efforts. A year end report is also required to be filed in January.

The quarterly Texas Sales and Use Tax report and payment was also submitted in October.

We have received Thankyou notes and emails from some of the candidates and organizations we donated to. Thanks to all of you who have contributed this year so that BAD could support so many good Democratic candidates and causes.

Activities

In lieu of a holiday party, BAD is having an "Drive in, Drop Off (gift cards), and Drive Away" Open House at the Democratic Headquarters on the afternoon of Sunday, December 13th from 2:00-5:00 p.m. BAD members always think of those who might need our help during this season and this year should be no exception.

Hill Country Family Services would welcome give gift cards from HEB and Walmart to give to those who seek their services. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to share our values by giving to others and help them celebrate their holidays.

Please make plans to stop by the headquarters and perhaps see your MASKED friends only briefly.

Both our outgoing and incoming board officers will be there to provide Christmas cheer and share holiday spirits.

We celebrate cautiously now so we will all be here to come together sooner in 2021!

THANK YOU

Thank you all for your ongoing support of the KCDP and BAD! Thank you for being a part of a wonderful three-year journey to make the Democratic Party a force in Kendall County. Our work is not complete by a long shot but we have made a great start. Please don’t let the effort fade.

6008 votes for Joe and Kamala in Kendall County. This is an all-time record and exceeded our base goal of 6000. It is a 64% increase over the votes Hilary received in 2016 and 37% more that Beto’s tally in Kendall County in 2018.

Unfortunately, we did not turn Texas Blue but we did see the Texas Democratic Party provide super support and had a tremendous local volunteer effort. Now the work begins anew.

EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF WE WORK TOGETHER!

Stay Safe and Stay Engaged

Many of our BAD members and other DEMS in the country worked in this election effort. Some worked early voting, others worked at a voting site on Nov 3 and still others worked on the Ballot Board opening and certifying mail-in ballots. Thanks for everyone's efforts!
FUN WITH FRIENDS AT THE EARLY VOTING TENT
Special thanks to Richard Caldwell for overseeing the volunteer schedule
and to Bill Lester for setting up and taking down the tent.
A total of 50 volunteers maintained the tent over the three weeks of early voting.
Rebeca Martinez won her race for the Chief Justice position on the 4th Court of Appeals. Rebecca Bell-Metereau also won the District 5 representative position on the State Board of Education.
Thank you to all the candidates who ran for office! You worked so hard and sacrificed so much in order to represent our democratic ideals and values.
We are so proud of you!
Want to read what Joe and Kamala have written or what has been written about them?
NEED A NEW MASK?
Get yours now before they are all sold out! Our very own Stacey Gilfillan, R.N., has made these great masks and is donating the profits to Hill Country Family Services. The masks have a pocket for a filter and, in addition to the ear loops, they have a neck loop so that you can take your mask off and let it hang around your neck. Masks are $20 each. If you would like to purchase one, email stacey at stazzinaro@gmail.com
These would make
great stocking stuffers!
