Services Return at St. Stephen's After Finding Detonated Device
School and church services have returned to normal at St. Stephen’s, Beaumont following a detonated device found in front of the church offices Thursday morning. The device had been left outside the office door and had gone off sometime in the night. Debris and minor damage was discovered after All Saints School chapel concluded at 9 a.m. and law enforcement was called to investigate. While FBI, ATF and Beaumont police completed a thorough search of the property and collected evidence, students were sent home and the school remained closed for the remainder of Thursday and Friday. Church services were held at normal times on Sunday to a full nave. “I give thanks no one hurt and I am especially grateful for the remarkable leadership of Steven Balke and Head of School Scootie Clark, the teachers and school and church staff during this frightening incident,” said the Rt. Rev. Andy Doyle. “Parishioners, parents and friends as well as diocesan staff were present to help support the church and school community and will continue to do so. Our thanks goes to the law enforcement officers who continue to bring this incident to a positive conclusion.”
