Employees Graduate from Leadership Mohawk Valley
Last week Vincent Gallaway,
Workforce Development Board, and Genaro Scampone, Oneida
County Workforce Development, graduated from the Leadership Mohawk Valley program.
Leadership Mohawk Valley is committed to the growth and development of individuals as effective leaders to the benefit of self, organization and community. The program was created in 1990 as a joint effort of the Herkimer, Utica (now Mohawk Valley), and Rome Chambers of Commerce and area business leaders. The 10-month leadership program develops a knowledgeable group of people prepared to be leaders in the community and to shape its future. It also provides experience in group dynamics, team leadership, presentation skills and professional and personal growth.
Throughout the LMV program year, participants broaden their perspectives, and confront the issues at large, thereby gaining a clearer picture of the community, as it exists today. The program concludes by serving as a springboard for the participant's future community leadership efforts.
Congratulations
Vincent and Genaro!

Roosevelt Residences Construction Job Fair
The Utica Municipal Housing Authority, Norstar Development USA, and community partners will sponsor a free Roosevelt Residences Construction Job Fair for Oneida County residents between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee Street, 2nd Floor, Utica. Refreshments, giveaways, construction training information, and interviews will be offered to participants.
The job fair is an effort of the Utica Municipal Housing Authority HUD Section 3 Initiative to identify residents interested in construction training, apprenticeship programs, and employment related to the Roosevelt Residences Project. Located in the Cornhill neighborhood of Utica, the Project is currently under construction across eleven (11) scattered sites and will consist of twenty-five (25) buildings housing fifty (50) units of affordable housing. Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2019.
Oneida County residents seeking training or jobs in the construction industry are invited to attend. The job fair will help local developers and contractors find persons interested in working on affordable housing and other commercial and residential projects in the community. Construction companies throughout the United States are facing a shortage of trained workers needed for both residential and commercial projects.
The fair is a collaborative effort of the Housing Authority, City of Utica, Norstar Development USA, Utica Public Library, Workforce Development Board, Mohawk Valley Community College Youthbuild Program, Oneida County BOCES, Central New York Labor Council, and other partners to connect residents interested in construction employment with local training programs and employers.
