Cyber Safety in the Information Age

Last month, youth and parents participated in the “Public & Permanent: Motivate Responsible Use of Technology & Prevent Digital Abuse!” event hosted by the
Bay Area Disciples (BAD)
. The presentation by Richard Guerry, founder of the
Institute for Responsible Online and Cell-Phone Communication
(IROC2), applied his vast experience and knowledge of digital safety to share insights about online responsibility to youth and parents.
All attending found the speaker to be very engaging and the topic compelling. Richard shared how important technology is for everyone. The digital age requires digital responsibilities, and what we do and what we post can impact others. He shared many stories about the consequences of technology that ended up getting youth and others arrested for their actions and he also shared many ways that youth can use technology in positive ways. His program is highly recommended for all ages.

Join the BDSC for a Movie Night
|
Neither Wolf Nor Dog is a journey into the Native American experience set against the backdrop of the Pine Ridge Reservation. The movie is based on the book of the same title by Kent Nerburn and tells the story of a white man and an Indian elder who journey together struggling to find a common voice. This movie takes viewers past all the myths and misconceptions of the Native American experience and reveals a part of America that few people see.
The Baltimore Dakota Learning Camps Steering Committee (BDSC) is sponsoring movie nights in the various Ministry Groups starting in Lent. Currently we have 3 Movie Nights scheduled with more coming:
- North Baltimore Presbyterians Ministry Group: Faith Presbyterian – Sunday, March 15th – 5:30 – 8:30 PM A potluck supper will be held at 5:30 and the movie will be shown starting at 6:30.
- In The Loop Ministry Group: Hunting Ridge Presbyterian – Friday, March 27th – 7:00 – 9:30 PM
- Susquehanna Parrish Ministry Group: Highland Presbyterian – Saturday, April 18th – 7:00 – 9:30 PM

Granite Presbyterian Church
will be traveling by bus to Sight and Sound in Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 to see the play “Queen Esther." The cost will be $115 per person. This will include bus transportation, your ticket to the 11:00 show, lunch afterwards and snacks on the bus. A deposit of $60.00 will be due on June 1st with the balance due by August 15th. The DC Detention Visitation Network
|
On any given night, more than 1,000 people are held in immigration detention in at least six detention facilities in Maryland and Virginia, incarcerated in actual or virtual jails solely because they have been accused of or determined to be in the US without authorization. The DC Detention Visitation Network seeks to lessen their isolation and vulnerability by providing friendship and support through in-person visits and letters.
