Title IX and Closed Communities
June 12th, 2016

Recent headlines related to sexual misconduct among varsity athletics, marching bands and fraternities illustrates the challenge associated with working with these closed communities to both prevent and respond to sexual misconduct. Students who are part of these communities are often at higher risk for sexually violent behaviors, including sexual assault, domestic violence and sexualized hazing. Learn more about this training and how to register here.

Tip of the Week

Prior Consent

Tip of the Week authored by Gentry McCreary, Ph.D., Affiliated Consultant, The NCHERM Group

In a recent investigator training I was conducting in Georgia, I was walking the participants through a case study I had written, which is based on a case I actually dealt with. The case involves a potential incapacitated assault.

Josh and Catherine had been dating for a few weeks, Josh had a party at his apartment on Thursday night, both got drunk and engaged in sexual intercourse. Catherine wakes up the next day with no memory of what happened. It is a fairly typical case. But there is one wrinkle in the case that generated an interesting conversation.

The 2016 SAAM campaign materials focus on the building blocks of prevention by communicating how individuals, communities, and the private sector can take action to promote safety, respect, and equality. ATIXA and Trivie now offering 1-Year Free U of Nine Trial

U of Nine is an app-based solution to help colleges and universities educate students and employees about sexual violence, sexual harassment, intimate partner violence and stalking. This is a cost-effective way to offer awareness and education content for audiences that can be hard-to-reach.

U of Nine modules are quiz-based, and have been created by ATIXA, the Association of Title IX Administrators, in collaboration with leading education quiz-based training app company, Trivie.

U of Nine is approaching the problem of campus sexual misconduct from a fresh, potent and technologically savvy perspective – engaging students on these important topics via their mobile devices. ATIXA has assembled two dozen subject matter experts from across higher education to review and develop the gamified, quiz-based content for U of Nine. Each quiz was subjected to intense focus-group analysis, along with feedback from students on pilot-site campuses around the country. Pilot sites ranged from community colleges to four-year residential universities and online institutions. U of Nine allows for longitudinal assessment of attainment of learning outcomes.

Institutions that sign up by June 1st will receive a year of UNLIMITED FREE use of the U of Nine app. Provide your students and employees with access to all 5 modules, including sexual harassment, consent, know your policy, sexual violence and bystander engagement

Experience U of Nine for yourself at no cost! Contact Ryan McDavis at (610) 993-0229 x1009 or [email protected] to get started today.

The ATIXA One Policy, One Process Model

Model Policies

The NCHERM Group and ATIXA Model Policy and Procedure for Civil Rights Equity Grievance Resolution for all Faculty, Students and Employees

ATIXA has freshly revised its One Policy, One Process (1P1P) unified resolution model for all forms of campus discrimination. It’s fully up-to-date with all legal and regulatory changes, and incorporates additional changes that resulted from extensive focus group feedback. Moreover, there are now three versions of 1P1P available as well as special versions that are compliant with both the NY and CA consent statutes.

The three standard versions of 1P1P are:

  • Version One – The ATIXA 1P1P Model, Investigation-Only
  • Version Two – The ATIXA 1P1P Model, Investigation-Only with an Appeal
  • Version Three – The ATIXA 1P1P Model, Original

New for 2016: 1P1P is now free for all ATIXA Full or Super Members. Visit your Member Resource Library or join ATIXA today to download all three versions. Visit our website to learn more. Ask ATIXA about how you can preview this resource for free!

The 1P1P can be licensed by non-members by contacting Marianne Price at [email protected]. Consultants are available to customize and assist with implementing 1P1P on your campus, should you wish. For more information, please contact Kate Halligan at [email protected].
