Cool off this summer with some freshwater fun! Join ForestWatch and the Forest Service for our annual snorkeling outing in the Conesauga River, where up to 47 species of fish have been documented. The Forest Service will provide equipment including wetsuits, masks, and snorkels. Plus, we'll have available special viewing boxes that let you see underwater without going under--great for those not quite ready to take the plunge.

General Info: Wet suits, masks and snorkels will be provided.  We will offer a private changing area for those who wish to change clothes before or after snorkeling.  The outing runs from approximately 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We'll break around noon for a picnic lunch.

Date of Outing: Saturday, July 21st, 2018

Meeting Time, Place, and Directions: We will meet at 9:15 am at the  Subway, 79 Highway 286, Suite E., Chatsworth, GA, and caravan to the snorkel site from there. Click here for a Google map of the meeting spot. More information will be provided upon reservation and payment (see below).

Leaders:  USFS Guide and Georgia ForestWatch Board Member Sue Harmon

Outing Location: We'll be snorkeling in a 1/4-mile stretch of the  Conasauga River, north of the Cohutta Wilderness.

Difficulty: Easy, family friendly.  Anyone over the age of 12 is welcome to attend. The water is deep in places, so weak swimmers will need to bring a safety float.

Bring:  You are welcome to bring your own mask & snorkel. Note: Due to the sensitive nature of this ecosystem, fins/flippers will not be allowed. Please bring swimsuit, water shoes, towel, safety float if desired, snack or lunch, water, and a small bag for wet clothes. If you are allergic to bees/wasps, remember your meds/epi-pen.

Number of Participants:  Minimum: 12; Maximum: 24

Rain Date:  Rain or Shine. This snorkel outing will only be cancelled (or at least pause for a time) if there are thunderstorms in the area, or if heavy rains and flooding occur prior to the event.

Pet Policy:  Thank you for not bringing your pet friends to this outing.

Family Safe Policy:  Outings are a smoke-, alcohol-, and drug-free setting.
