What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
1 Corinthians 2:12-13

I was physically tired, emotionally spent, and spiritually drained. The valley had been long and dark, and the mountains - looming on all sides - remained unyielding. I was overwhelmed by circumstances that, over the years, had become worse instead of the "better" for which I had long prayed and believed God. I had grown weary waiting for things to improve.

But Spring Revival was approaching. TPCBC revivals in the past had always been uplifting and encouraging with awesome preaching, exceptional teaching, warm fellowship, and invigorated worship. Yet, even though there was much to look forward to, this spring I needed more. I needed change - actual, tangible, measurable change - in my life. I needed to see some element of my circumstances transformed, improved as a result of my participation in Revival. I shared with God that, as much as I appreciated encouragement, encouragement alone would not suffice this spring. I asked that Revival would bring about exactly what I believed it is supposed to bring about: my life revived, refreshed, renewed,  changed . Read more >>

To Jeff
By DeLunte Lewis

Ever since my first day walking home on my own, when you left work early and hopped the fence to check up on me and make sure I was ok, I knew that you would go to any length to ensure that I was protected and provided for.

The strength of your will, your resolve, when you put your mind to something, when you determine to employ your energy in an effort, there isn't much that can deny you nor stand in your way.

I've been afforded the privilege of being around some remarkable and accomplished men, yet they are relegated to your background, found under the covering of your shadow as a result of your towering presence.

You are the embodiment of manhood. You are my hero, you are all that I aspire to be. You have sacrificed your life so that I might have access to better opportunities. You have nurtured me, inspired me, motivated me.

Your exceptional ability as my earthly father enabled me to recognize, accept and appreciate the majesty and might of my Heavenly Father.

I love you, Dad... Happy Father's Day!

TPCBC Sunday School and Youth Connections at the Weinberg Housing Facility
By Maxwell Myers, Member, Youth Connections

On April 29, members of The People's Community Baptist Church Sunday School youth classes and Youth Connections joined together in the Norwood Center to decorate lunch bags with inspiring messages and art work for the Weinberg Housing and Resource Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The bags were used to pack meals that the facility distributed to the homeless. The Center's shelter houses over 275 residents, providing each resident with case management, workshops, resource referrals, meals, and a caring staff.

Residents and staff alike were blessed by the morning prayer and scripture that the students offered. They also presented a lesson based on Ephesians 2:10: "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Students recognized the impact they made as they encouraged homeless people with the inspiring messages and designs they created on each lunch bag.

The goal was to decorate 125 lunch bags for the facility to use to pack lunches for the homeless. With the support of the Sunday School, Youth Connections, and 1st-grade students from Fairland Elementary School, we completed 134 bags! This was not the first time that Sunday School students decorated bags for the Center, and they look forward to partnering again with Youth Connections to continue to help others and let God's light shine through acts of kindness.

"Remember"
By Min. Sharon M. Prather

...Cross over again to the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, so that this may be a sign among you; when your children ask later, 'What do these stones mean to you?' then you shall say to them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall become a memorial for Israel forever. Joshua 4:4-7 (AMP)

Do you know that there were 130 service members from Montgomery County, Maryland, who were killed or reported missing in action during the Vietnam War? My only brother, Pfc. James W. Prather, was among this distinguished group who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. My sisters and I still remember when the circle of our family was broken upon his passing. But we are not alone. The Montgomery County Government has taken steps to ensure that many others will remember. Read more >>

Did you know that when we are seriously following Jesus Christ, we can expect persecution in life? Persecution is not just for full-time missionaries, but for all who pursue godly living. So, if we haven't experienced persecution, what does that say about our godliness?

Parents' Corner | "I Can See Clearly Now"
By Edwina Neely

As God's Spirit works in us, we receive wisdom and can see clearly His will for our lives. I praise God for the insight and understanding He gives that's clear in Psalm 127:3 (NCV) , which says, "Children are a gift from God; they are His reward."

Consider these insights and see clearly now: your gift, your reward, your child!

You have been blessed with a gift from God, just as you are a gift from God to your parents. If this is a new thought for you, I want you to stop now and say, "I am a gift from God!" Believe it, and from this day forward, think of your child as a gift just as you are a gift. You see, no matter how you or your child got here, how you or your child looks, or which abilities you or your child possess, you are all gifts from God. No child is a mistake or accident. You have found favor with God, and He has rewarded you with this little bundle of life. Read more >>
