GIS/CAMA... from Houston to Portland!

Another successful GIS/CAMA conference is in the books! We co-hosted the  2018 GIS/CAMA Technologies Conference  in Houston, Texas last week. The education was stellar and the networking opportunities plentiful. Thanks to our partner IAAO for another great event.

Next up... Portland, Oregon! Make plans to join us next February for GIS/CAMA 2019. The Call for Presentations will be announced in May.
Program Details Nearly Complete for GIS-Pro & CalGIS 2018

We're partnering with our four California URISA Chapters and the California Geographic Information Association to present GIS-Pro & CalGIS 2018 in Palm Springs in October. Registration and program details coming soon!

The response to the Call for Presentation Proposals was  tremendous compared to recent years (which we believe translates into a lot of interest in GIS-Pro & CalGIS 2018 in Palm Springs!

The planning committee met in Palm Springs earlier this month to review proposals and discuss hot topics. Palm Springs and the event venue will be perfect for us in October! Lots of things to do within walking distance and beautiful scenery. The weather should be ideal as well.

The track teams are nearly finished developing the sessions and agenda for the event. There will be substantial educational content on all of these topics:
  • GIS Leadership & Management
  • Preparing for GISP Certification
  • GIS for Natural Resources
  • GIS for Next-Gen 9-1-1 and Emergency Response
  • GIS Supporting Health and Human Services
  • Data Driven Communities aka Smart Communities
  • Technology
  • Inspiring the Future of GIS and Education

  • GIS-Pro & CalGIS 2018 will feature workshops, a keynote address from Jack Dangermond, tons of educational sessions, an exhibition, and networking events. Plan to join us in October!
GIS Leadership Academy in Columbus or Salt Lake City

The GIS Leadership Academy will be in Columbus, Ohio soon and our numbers are fantastic! Thanks to all who helped spread the word. GIS professionals from 15 states and 2 Canadian provinces will be with us for five days of targeted GIS leadership and management training.

Special thanks to the Ohio URISA Chapter for hosting a social during the upcoming GLA!
If you can't make Columbus, be sure to check out the Salt Lake City event in late July. But don't wait too long as two-thirds of the available spots are already taken!
    Is GISP in your Future?
URISA's Professional Education Committee is hosting a six-hour, two-day virtual event on April 3-4 to explore the reasons that the GISP credential is worth pursuing as well as what is involved in completing each part of the application. It will also explore the topics that you need to be familiar with for each of the knowledge areas covered by the GISP exam. Information presented in this webinar is designed to help professionals who have extensive GIS education and experience, but need to know what topics to review prior to taking the exam. It also will help individuals with some GIS experience that may be lacking in one or more areas covered by the exam and that need to know where to find additional resources to study.

URISA members may attend this virtual event for free, but you must register immediately. It has been very popular and registration will close at 10 AM Central time on Friday, March 30. ( Note that the plan is to record the webinar and make it available to members in the near future if next week doesn't work with your schedule.)

Note that the next testing window for the  GISCI Geospatial Core Technical Knowledge Exam®  as a part of the GISP Certification is scheduled for June 2-9, 2018.    Learn more

URISA's Policy Advisory Committee is Engaged for You
For more than ten years, the URISA Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) has been looking out for the interests of all GIS professionals. Issues that impact the GIS profession may come from  legislation, standards, regulatory proceedings, new technology and procedures, or other sources. The PAC tracks these issues and deliberates whether an issue requires a formal position by URISA in response. The Committee has played a significant role in the discussions surrounding the Geospatial Data Act (GDA) currently pending in Congress and is quite concerned with recent developments about the inclusion of a citizenship question in the 2020 US Census. Know that we're following this closely. Stay tuned.
