CREBA members are doing good things! See what they're up to and how you can join the cause(s)!

JDRF Real Estate Games

Longtime CREBA member, Savills Studley's Adam Singer, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) 40 years ago and immediately wanted to become involved in finding a cure. After serving on the International Board of the JDRF during the 1980s, he became Chairman of the JDRF DC Chapter. In 1989 Adam started the JDRF Real Estate Games as a fun, competitive way for the commercial real estate industry to raise money for research to find a cure. This Olympics-style challenge includes conventional and unconventional sporting events. The Games has been lucky to have participants and volunteers from across the CRE industry.  Now in its 29th year, the event raises over $500,000 annually and is the largest Real Estate charity event in Washington!

CBRE's Jill Goubeaux served as the (first woman) honorary chair in both 2016 & 2017 and continues to help the committee. Her personal friendship with Adam Singer spurred her initial involvement, but she is inspired to continue after meeting so many living with T1D. Current Event Chair (2016-2018),  Savills Studley's Sarah Dreyer, originally became involved as a fun way to network and secure business but stays involved because she believes that T1D research advancements can help with the daily struggles for those living with T1D. These ladies are working hard to put together a fun, competitive, and meaningful day of competition. Click here to join these CREBA members by  participating or volunteering in the JDRF Real Estate Games! If you haven't attended in a few years, it's time to start training and show up on June 7th!

Hoops for Hope benefiting the Washington School for Girls

On April 20th, Tishman Speyer's Rafael Notario organized and participated in the  "Hoops for Hope" 3-on-3 Basketball tournament benefiting The Washington School for Girls (WSG). The Washington School for Girls seeks to close the educational gap and broaden the educational opportunities for girls from economically disadvantaged communities in grades 3-8. Raf sits on the Auxiliary Development Board for this tuition-free, independent Catholic School east of the Potomac River in Anacostia. Now in its 7th year, the "Hoops for Hope" tournament raised over $17,000 for the school. Raf is inspiried by the work the school does that impacts the lives of girls at a young age. The "Hoops for Hope" tournament will be held again in April 2019, but the next event benefiting WSG is a trivia night at Solly's on Wednesday, May 16th. Join Raf by clicking here .

Catholic Charities

Ryan Lopez received CREBA's Young Business Network Community Service Award at this year's Annual Awards Dinner on April 23rd. Not only is Ryan involved in the many charities sponsored through his leadership of the Cushman & Wakefield Future Leaders, Ryan also dedicates his time to  Catholic Charities, specifically at the Spanish Catholic Center.  The Center provides medical care, job training, and additional resources to immigrants in the DC area. He also works with the Youth Transitional Program at Catholic Charities' East Men's Shelter, which provides temporary housing and support for homeless adolescent males. As the son of an immigrant, Ryan is especially sensitive to the position of many of the clients at the Spanish Catholic Center and feels a responsibility to use resources to make the community better. There are opportunities to volunteer once a month at the shelter, usually on Saturday mornings. May 19th is the next date for volunteering. Check out the Calendar for more opportunities.
