Thank y'all for making 2018 an outstanding year for District 10. It's been a pleasure to continue to serve you and address your needs. Your phone calls, emails, and office visits are instrumental to District 10 - you help us direct funding, identify long-neglected streets, connect you with City departments, and so much more.
I'd like to take the time to go over some accomplishments this year. In addition to budget wins like having a dedicated Homeless Outreach Coordinator for District 10 added to the budget and additional funding for street improvements, we can celebrate the following successes:
- Federal Opportunity Zone designation for private investment along Perrin Beitel
- Canopy shades for outdoor seating at the Northeast Senior Center
- Veteran employment metrics for the City of San Antonio
- Tricentennial celebration of Native American Heritage at Comanche Lookout Park
- Over a thousand students and families served through our Back 2 School Prep Rally
A trip to Washington, D.C. this year helped coordinate major infrastructure improvements at Lackland Air Force base with SAWS - a project long overdue with countless hurdles in place. Keeping San Antonio "Military City, USA" now and forever continues to be our priority. We've even received the go-ahead to have city pride signage installed near major freeways to promote our Military City, USA status to drivers entering the city and at the airport.
Our Neighborhood Engagement Team has logged over 1,000 individual calls this year about District 10 concerns and feedback. Thank you! We encourage you to keep calling to keep the data coming, so we can prioritize funding and resources.
Did you know that 232 District 10
streets had work performed this year through the City's Infrastructure Management Program? Another 205 streets in District 10 are scheduled for repair in 2019. We know the need for street maintenance and repair is large in District 10, which is why we are constantly looking for more ways to direct funding to infrastructure improvements.
This year certainly had interesting Council items to vote on, and we thank each and every one of you who called, wrote, or participated in surveys to indicate how you wanted District 10 represented.
San Antonio continues to grow with an average of 66 residents per day moving in. If you have a new neighbor, please let them know we are here to serve their needs as they settle in their new home. With new local, state and federal representatives setting up office lines and email addresses, we anticipate the release of our updated Community Guide reflecting these changes in February 2019. We will be sure to make these available at community meetings for you to share.
We hope you know how much we appreciate you coming to our District 10 Community Meetings and the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance as well. We also love stopping by your neighborhood meetings. If your neighborhood does not have a formal association in place, District 10 Staff can help walk you through the registration process. An organized neighborhood association is a great goal for 2019. For those with a longstanding neighborhood association, thank you for continuing the work to ensure your neighborhoods stay connected and in the know. I look forward to visiting with y'all at your neighborhood meetings in 2019; just contact our office and we will make every effort to attend.
