Family Friends of Scouting
As we begin 2020, we are asking for your continued support of the Friends of Scouting Campaign. Friends of Scouting is our annual appeal to all Scouting families in which we offer them the opportunity to support the character education and leadership program that they believe so much in. Your gifts to Scouting are crucial to our success as one of the largest and most successful Boy Scout Councils in America. The Sam Houston Area Council will spend $250 per youth member in 2020 to guarantee our youth are getting the best program possible. Please consider helping us offset that cost by making a contribution at this level, or more. Any gift of any amount is greatly appreciated and will ensure that the Sam Houston Area Council can continue to offer the world class programming that you have come to know. As always, your contributions are 100% tax deductible and may be matched by your employer. Family Friends of Scouting dollars that are contributed in the Sam Houston Area Council are always used locally within our Council to be able to continue offering our great program. For more information and to donate, please click  here   . If they haven’t already, a district volunteer will be contacting your unit to schedule our annual Friends of Scouting presentation for 2020. We appreciate your help in making sure that we are able to tell the Scouting story and the vast impact of our program to your unit’s families and in offering them a chance to support our annual Friends of Scouting campaign.

Scouts whose paperwork for Eagle Scout Boards of Review, conducted in 2019, turned in before March 21, 2020 at 4:30 PM will be invited to the 2019 Eagle Scout reception on May 3. Any paperwork received after that date, for an Eagle Scout Board of Review that took place in 2019, will not receive the invitation to the Eagle Scout reception, and may not be recognized on the council Eagle Wall within the appropriate year.
Note that this does not affect the date the youth earned Eagle Scout, but only effects when that youth will be recognized on our council's Eagle Wall and whether or not he gets an invitation to be a part of the 2019 Eagle Scout reception.
If you have questions please contact either Jennifer Ausmus or Brendan Cronin
Eagle Wall at Cockrell Scout Center
To help honor the accomplishments of the young men who earn the Eagle Scout rank annually, our Sam Houston Area Council maintains a wall with the names of all Eagle Scouts in front of the Cockrell Service Center. During the 3rd quarter of 2020 the Sam Houston Area Council plans to add the names of the young men who earned their Eagle Scout rank in 2019. In order to ensure that the names on the wall appear correctly it is important that every Eagle Scout and his family read the procedures below. Please note that a postcard with similar instructions will be sent shortly in the mail to each 2019 Eagle Scout as well.
Procedures to Verify Name Spelling on Eagle Wall:
  • Go to the Sam Houston Area Council's Eagle Wall website, click here.
  • Click on the 2019 Eagle Scouts button
  • Check the spelling of the Eagle Scout’s name (note the column NAME ON WALL is how the Eagle Scout's name will appear on the wall)
  • If the scout's name is spelled/displayed correctly then no additional action is needed
  • If the scout's name is NOT spelled/displayed correctly, then click on the Submit Corrections to the Eagle Scout Wall button on the Sam Houston Area Council's Eagle Wall website
  • Follow the procedure to submit a name change
  • Please go all the way through the procedures and hit Checkout
  • There is no fee to submit a change
  • When you have gone through the entire procedure you will receive an email that looks like a receipt from Doubleknot, the council online event registration system (make sure to check spam and/or junk folders).
The deadline to submit corrections is May 31, 2020. Corrections received after this date may not appear on the Eagle Wall when the 2019 names are added in the 3rd quarter of 2020.
Should you have any questions about this process please contact either Jennifer Ausmus or Brendan Cronin
