Sumer Sorensen-Bain receives two extraordinary honors in one month
Sumer Sorensen-Bain, Manufacturer's Edge Chief of Programs and Operations, recently received two nearly simultaneous honors. After being selected as one of a handful of participants from around the state to attend the annual Colorado Capital Conference, Sumer spent all of last week in Washington DC conversing with representatives, business leaders, students, and educators from Colorado as well as an impressive line-up of guest speakers that included Senators Schumer and McConnell. Additionally, Sumer had the honor of watching Representative Scalise secure the first out in the 2018 Congressional Baseball Game.
In her own version of a double-play, Sumer will be recognized again next week when she is inaugurated into the Colorado Governors Fellowship Program at a pinning ceremony on June 28. Created by Governor John Hickenlooper, the Fellowship Program is a bipartisan educational program founded on the premise that government is only as good as the people in it and seeks to unite and develop leadership across a number of diverse sectors.

To say that Sumer is excited about these opportunities is a bit of an understatement. She said recently, "I am tremendously humbled and honored to be included in the Colorado Capital Conference and the Colorado Governors Fellowship Program. The opportunity to interface with leaders across the state-and the entire country-to bring new ideas about innovation, development, and advocacy for Colorado's manufacturing sector is a real career highlight for me!"

A monthly article featuring tips and insights from Manufacturer's Edge Cyber Program Director Jennifer Kurtz who will show you how to make sense of cyber -- simply!

When I came up with this title I thought it just sounded like a funny and alliterative  lead-in to talking about cyber parasites that one can pick up while traveling. It turns out there really are human bot flies that pass their larvae through mosquitoes to human hosts. In a disturbing parallel to the way bots work in cyber space, these bot fly larvae grow barbs when they burrow under the human host's skin to prevent their removal. Gross! The recommendations that follow for safe cyber practices to adopt while vacationing this summer may be a bit tedious, but they don't require tweezers or other special tools; well, maybe a paper clip or two.

  1. Repair screen doors and windows
  2. Remove/lock down doggy or other hidden access doors
  3. Fix leaks
  4. Pack light, shop-or at least protect-heavy
Enjoy a safe summer vacation and don't bring parasites (whether animal or technical) back with you!
