Election Coverage From Oklahoma Engaged and KGOU
SQ 788
Oklahoma voters will be heading to the polls Tuesday, June 26 with candidates to choose at the state, Congressional, county and district levels. They'll also be deciding whether to legalize marijuana for medical purposes statewide, along with municipal initiatives in many cities. Our collaborative reporting project, Oklahoma Engaged, has a video explaining the basics of the medical marijuana question. Listen on Monday, June 25 for a report on the 14 counties voting on liquor by-the-drink.

On primary election night, KGOU will broadcast the results in brief updates throughout the evening, and will be live-blogging on Twitter. The morning after, we'll have reports from our news team and analysis of how key races look going forward.

Introducing Our New Online Portal, 'Member Connect'
Member Connect
KGOU donors can now monitor and manage their giving through a new online portal, available after hours on demand. Once your donor access is enabled, you can update your contact or payment information, check on recent contributions and even create and print a tax receipt on the spot. It's particularly helpful for sustaining members who might need to update credit card numbers or choose a thank-you gift.

We're pleased to be able to offer our members this additional service option -- of course we are still available by phone at (405) 325-0022 or email during office hours to assist you in any way we can.

KGOU is sending another young journalist on to a larger market. Digital editor and afternoon host Nomin Ujiyediin is leaving KGOU for WNYC, where she'll help produce the local afternoon news. Nomin expressed her thanks to listeners, saying, "What I've learned in Oklahoma will stay with me for the rest of my career, and OU and Norman will always have a special place in my heart." Good luck, Nomin; we wish you well.

Capitol Steps' 4th of July Special, Plus A Fireworks Soundtrack

Even the best fireworks display is enhanced by musical accompaniment, and this year KGOU will be airing the soundtrack for the City of Norman's July 4th fireworks show. Starting at 9 p.m. we'll play musical selections to help set the mood, including some from this year's Jazz in June festival. Then the fireworks soundtrack begins at 9:45 wherever you happen to be watching the sky.

At 6 p.m. on July 4th, the Capitol Steps present their semi-annual "Politics Takes a Holiday" special, a send-up of the news of the day in musical political parody. They'll be introducing songs from their newest album, Make America Grin Again.

From Broadway to The Tiny Desk: The Band's Visit
cast standing around microphones
If you watched the Tony Awards on television, you know that one particular Broadway show -- The Band's Visit -- cleaned up with 10 awards, including best new musical. Coincidentally, members of the cast, including Tony winners Katrina Lenk and Tony Shalhoub, performed at NPR's Tiny Desk just a few weeks ago, the first-ever Broadway musical in the Tiny Desk series.
