Summit Field Day: Raven Games 2019
The 2018-2019 school year will once again conclude with The Summit's annual Raven Games (aka Field Day). This year we will use the festivities to celebrate and bid farewell to Mr. Gronniger who will begin his next adventure as Head of School at Kansas City Academy.

An email will be sent to The Summit community with details regarding this year's Field Day. But here are some quick notes to get you ready:
  • Where: The Summit Prep's Backyard (if it's raining, we'll still have Field Day and just move our activities inside).
  • When: 8:45-11:30 a.m. (Note, there is NO before or after school Fun Zone). Students may be dropped off between 8:30-8:45 a.m. and picked up by 11:30 a.m. If this is an issue, please contact Amy Maas immediately.
  • What: All Summit students will be divided into seven different, multi-age group, teams from Beginners through High Schoolers. Each team will have designated Summit Employee team leaders. Teams will compete in activities reminiscent of Mr. G and his time at The Summit!
  • Attire: Summit Spirit wear and any shorts/pants (jeans, khaki, athletic). Tennis/running shoes required - we will be moving a lot.
  • Spectators: Parents, grandparents, etc. are encouraged to attend, especially our early learner and younger elementary student parents.
  • Things to bring: Labeled water bottle and a snack (disposable, easy to transport, and non-refrigerated).
  • Picnic Lunch: SPO Class Reps are organizing lunches for after Field Day. Please check your class email for more information.
  • Ice Cream Truck: We will have a visit from the ice cream truck around 11:45 a.m. on Field Day. Treats will cost between $1-4. Students should have cash if they would like to purchase a frozen treat.

In the Classroom
Upper School: Model United Nations

In Model United Nations, the final focus has been upon improving the local community. As such, students were given a creative prompt to design their own non-profit organization. Students could choose to work in a group or on their own, and their ideas have ranged from an animal shelter to a safe place for homeless LGBTQ+ teens. This final project was designed by Mrs. Maddox, who also arranged for a guest speaker to come in and share with students. Mrs. Shannon Porter, the CEO of Empower: Abilities (formerly known as Southwest Council for Independent Living) came in to share with students about her time spent working with and leading a non-profit organization in Springfield. Mrs. Porter was also able to bring in some of the exciting technology Empower: Abilities helps to distribute within the community.
4th Grade Field Trip to Crystal Bridges

Summit fourth graders took their final field trip of 2018-2019 last week. The class took The Summit shuttle to Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, Arkansas. They enjoyed amazing art and even had an ice cream treat on the Bentonville square.
