It was such a joy graduating students from Belton High School and Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow. This year we graduated 812 students. Our graduation ceremonies are a truly special experience, and the celebrations of the Class of 2018 were no exception.
Belton ISD offers so many choices and opportunities because this community has made a commitment to prepare our students to excel in tomorrow's world. We are grateful our graduates can share in the benefits that come from living in a community that supports our kids.

This year 687 seniors from Belton High School and 125 students from Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow collected their diplomas.

Our graduation ceremonies are a truly special experience, and this year's celebrations were certainly not an exception. I have the honor of awarding the graduates their diplomas, and this year I was privileged to hand my daughter her diploma as well. As I reflected on the graduates during the spring and at graduation, I became inspired more than ever before by the extraordinary way that the entire educational process impacts the lives of our children. I'm reminded that we all make a difference and that every moment matters.

All of our graduates from both campuses are part of a great tradition. An unbroken line connects them to the generations of Belton ISD students that have graduated before and to those that are yet to come. Our district continues to grow, but that connection remains the same. As a Belton ISD board member recently stated, "Your high school graduation really means something...more and more every year."

As our graduates head out into the world, our employees are already hard at work preparing for next school year.

Among the projects that we are working on this summer are the final phase of the roof replacement at Belton High School, the completion of the Lakewood Elementary music classrooms and gymnasium project, and the completion of the Pittenger Fine Arts Center. In addition, we are modifying our playgrounds to improve accessibility and relocating our baseball locker room to an existing locker room area that better meets the needs of our students.

Our teachers are participating in training on our new learning management system, Schoology, and developing strategies and systems to support students in core content areas as well as socially and emotionally.

Thank you for supporting our students - from the seniors we just graduated, to this coming year's prekindergartners, who will graduate in 2031!

Sincerely,

Susan Kincannon, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Message from the School Board Immediate Past President:

Our Schools! Our Community!

It has been a tremendous honor to represent our community on the Belton ISD Board of Trustees, and a tremendous honor to represent Belton ISD in our community, around our state, and even a few times around the country.

I am thankful to have been a part of Belton ISD, and for the significant influence it has had on our family. This is an extraordinary community, and we have benefited from opportunities to learn and grow, and hopefully we have contributed to making Belton an even better place to live, work, play, and raise a family.

My goal has always been to find ways to support our staff in meeting our mission of providing opportunities for our students to excel. I am proud of how we have addressed the challenges set before us, and of the opportunities our community has provided for our kids - new or expanded classes, programs, contests, etc. I have especially cherished the ordinary and sometimes extraordinary opportunities I have had to support and encourage our students. It has been a joy to be present to cheer for our students wherever they compete and perform, so that they will know they are supported and valued.

It has been an extraordinary experience to work with some amazing servant leaders over the past 24 years - 25 fellow board members and 4 superintendents, many of whom have become my dearest friends. We have spent a lot of time together; we have worked hard together. I have loved every minute of our planning and dreaming together for how we can get better at helping our students, and how we can most effectively meet the challenges we face.

While I am overwhelmed with emotion at this time of transition, I want everyone to know how confident I am in the future of our school district because we have exceptionally strong leadership in place. Dr. Kincannon and her administrative team are well equipped to lead us, and our board is full of passionate servant leaders. We have a long legacy of servant leadership, commitment to excellence and innovation, and a commitment to doing what's best for our kids in Belton ISD. I hope I have contributed to that legacy.

LaGay and I are committed to continuing to support our students and serve our community. We will continue to volunteer in our schools, attend athletic and fine arts events, and be wherever kids are. We are proud to be part of a community that values children and public schools. We love Belton ISD. Thank you!
