Keeping Families Close
Mission Moment: Keeping Close When it Matters Most

Quote Graphic_ It _RMHCCIN_ is a blessing just because you don_t have to worry about your things_ you don_t have to worry about how you_re going to wash your clothes_ you don_t have to worry about how you_re going to eat. I mean there_s stuff that_s kid-friendly_ stuff that_s adult-friendly...there are a lot of activities that make it feel like a _home-away-from-home._

A Message from our CEO
Michelle Study-Campbell presents at the 32nd Annual Swing for Kids Golf Tournament

Summer event season is in full swing as we kicked off the month of June with our 32nd Annual Swing for Kids Golf Tournament presented by NextGear Capital! Thank you to all our golfers, partners, volunteers, staff and supporters who helped us raise over $150K to keep families together and near the care they need.

Then, this past weekend our friends at the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) hosted their annual Heroes for the House 5K, where hundreds of runners, House alumni and their fiercest supporters came out in their superhero-best to raise funds for our families. Soon after, we headed to Conner Prairie to recognize our Heart of the House Society donors with a special reception and Star Wars themed performance at Symphony on the Prairie.

Finally, on Sunday, we celebrated our wonderful and dedicated RMHCCIN dads with our annual Father's Day lunch at the House inside of Riley. Dads from both Houses came to enjoy a moment to relax with chair massages, giveaways, catered barbecue lunch and sweet treats.  It's was a lovely afternoon spent with our families and we thank our friends at McDonald's of Central Indiana for making it possible.

It's busy months like these that really make me take a step back in awe at the amazing support we have here at RMHCCIN. Thank YOU and stay tuned -- our summer events are just getting started!

Until next time!

The Adopt-a-Room program is a year-long sponsorship of a room or continuing care apartment at our Limestone and Riley Houses. The program provides families with much more than just a roof over their heads -- it helps to provide support, home-cooked meals and relief from their stressful situations. Most importantly, room partners are helping families focus on what matters most -- their seriously-ill or injured child.

This month we would like to recognize the late Gary Solodkin, whose room was a gift from his daughter Stacy. Stacy states, "My father Gary Solodkin and I had many talks about what he would want his legacy to be. My father loved kids and worked with nearby schools to help young adults with their homework and mentored kids through his church. It filled his heart and I know he is smiling knowing his money is going to help the families of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana. He always said the Ronald McDonald House was his favorite charity because it helped children and their families. It is a blessing to continue his legacy by honoring something so close to his heart."

Thank you Stacy, your father would be proud that his legacy is keeping families together and near the care they need.

Fun Fact #5: Did you know McDonald's "Hamburger Day" special helped us open our doors?

Though the very first Ronald McDonald House (in Philadelphia, PA) was funded through the sale of Shamrock Shakes. Our Ronald McDonald House was funded through a "Hamburger Day" special!

In August of 1981, McDonald's donated $487,547 from a 25 cent Hamburger Day special. Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald's restaurants, also contributed a personal check of $12,500 for our House. You can find Mr. Kroc's letter to us hanging in the halls of our South Wing (where the original entrance used to be)!

Today, McDonald's remains a strong partner of our House and we appreciate all they do!
