Our People Perform
  • The American Geophysical Union project is the first-ever "net-zero" office building renovation. This means that over the course of a calendar year, the building will generate as much energy as it pulls from the electrical grid.This project also included commercial integration of advance technologies for the first time.
  • The WMATA Andrews Federal Center Bus Garage was S&D's largest industrial design-build project to date. Our subcontractors are always at the heart of our solutions. We'd like to recognize CMC Sheet Metal, Schneider Electric, Critical Controls, Goel Insulation, Metro Test and Balance, Bay Associates and Digging and Rigging.

  • Project Manager, Mary Beth Kingsley was able to share a special moment with her daughter Hope at the ABC's Excellence in Construction Award Ceremony where we took home our 2nd National Award for the  United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Shapell Family Center  project. Special thanks  to DPR Construction, Johnson Controls, Goel Services and Performance Test and Balance for your gracious recommendation letters!
  • Whiting-Turner Contracting Company nominated S&D skilled tradesmen for their visual and technical HVAC and plumbing excellence on the 120 year-old,  George Washington University Corcoran School of Art and Design Historic Renovation .  The WBC Craftsmanship Award recognized the adversity the men faced on the project, which included cutting stone and masonry wall up to 4 ft. thick and spending most of their time working in extremely congested spaces.

Coal to Solar Transforming Our Manufacturing Facility

Fab Shop goes green in 2019! Read here. In addition to the installation of our rooftop solar PV farm, we have made several upgrades to our fabrication facility. We recently doubled the area's storage capacity and added a roof to shelter items; replaced 4 rooftop air handling units and our 20-year-old roof with a white TPO roof system; added four 25,000 cfm ventilation fans; added areas for S&D YOUniversity and bootcamp training; updated our security system and purchased another CNC Plasma Pipe Cutting and Profile machine.

This year we were proud to be recognized for "Evolving Volunteer Program" at  the 2019 Corporate Volunteer Awards Luncheon in Montgomery County. S&D is honored to work with  40 non-profits a year , both locally and nationally. See what we have been up to recently!
  • Joined ABC Metro Washington's Women Building Washington committee and Rebuilding Together Montgomery County for the SheBuilds event.
  • Coached 15 students at the career fair and mock interview event at Thomas Edison Academy on April 8th. This exercise provided HVAC students with the opportunity to network for future employment. 

  • Raised over $12,000 to help support Junior Achievement Programs in the greater Washington area. Special thanks to our sponsors: Cummings Wagner, HPS Specialties, HAVTECH, Lerch, Early & Brewer and Cathell & Associates.

  • Welcomed high school students from the Summer RISE  program to help expose them to current and growing career options, as well as workplace conduct and expectations. 

  • Hired a High School Graduate from DC Students Construction Trade Foundation.

  • Sponsored the DC ACE Mentorship Program.
