Dear Faculty and Staff,

During the past weeks, the entire KCU team has done a great job continuing to address the logistical challenges of transitioning all of our academic programs in order for our students to continue their studies uninterrupted via web-based classrooms.

As we continue to follow the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the city, state and federal government, along with best practices in higher education, we will further limit access to both campuses effective Friday, March 20, at 5 p.m. This safety measure allows KCU to continue to do our part to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

After 5 p.m. Friday, our Kansas City and Joplin campuses will be accessible only to essential personnel until further notice. Essential personnel will include the following:

  • faculty members who require access to technology for the recording of lectures;
  • campus safety and emergency management personnel; and
  • a limited number of other approved employees

During this interim period of time, no other faculty or staff will have access to the campuses unless they have been pre-approved by their Dean or their functional Vice-President and by Jim Herrington, the Director of Campus Operations. Additionally, any vendors who must be on campus to perform essential work must also be pre-approved by Jim Herrington.

Parking for approved employees accessing the Kansas City campus will be limited to lot D to the east of the Administration building, and approved employees accessing the Joplin campus should park in the north parking lot. Upon arrival, employees must check in with Security at the Woodland entrance in Kansas City and the front desk at the Joplin campus, and present your University badge. Security will then provide access to the necessary buildings.

Additionally, those who access the campus must conduct a self-screening (sign in and temperature check) upon entering campus. A screening station will be available at the Administration Building reception desk in Kansas City as well as the reception desk in Joplin.

All lectures should be recorded at the homes of faculty, if at all possible. If assistance is necessary, Butterworth Alumni Center (BAC) and Joplin (J-South) can be scheduled in advance for recording using normal Outlook Calendar procedures to include AV personnel. Access to these academic studios will generally be available between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Please remember, beginning 5 p.m. Friday, any employee or vendor who is not designated as “essential” or pre-approved will be prohibited from entering campus without the approval of Jim Herrington.

We do understand that these restrictions may impose an inconvenience. This further limitation of campus access will hopefully be short lived, will help limit the spread of the coronavirus and improve the well-being of the communities we serve.

Sincerely,
