CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION'S NEW HOME TO OPEN IN LATE AUGUST
The Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) has announced the opening date for their new home, the Chicago Architecture Center (CAC). Set to open August 31 of this year, the CAC will be the "home to everything architecture in Chicago." The 20,000-square-foot structure is located at 111 East Wacker Drive, just above the dock for the River Cruise offered by the CAF.

Lynn Osmond, the CAF's President and CEO, said of the new Center, "We can't wait for people to visit and experience how Chicago architects have influenced the world through their innovation and vision. We've engineered a stimulating and immersive space where visitors can have fun discovering Chicago's groundbreaking architecture and appreciate its profound impact on the world." Read more...
HOLOCAUST MUSEUM EXHIBIT TELLS 'STORIES OF SURVIVAL: OBJECT. IMAGE. MEMORY'
The  Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center (Susan Abrams) will showcase more than 60 objects in a new exhibit and v iewers will find out their significance when "Stories of Survival: Object. Image. Memory." opens on July 19.  Each object displayed is accompanied by an oversized photo on which the survivor or a descendant has written the story connected with the object. Read more...

ROBIN KELLY WELCOMES WINNING ARTIST TO CAPITOL
Taylor Ausley, who graduated in June from Homewood-Flossmoor High School, met U.S. Congresswoman (IL02)  Robin Kelly in Washington the week of June 25, where "Chief Halo," a painting by Taylor of a Native American in ceremonial headdress, won the 2018 Congressional Art Competition sponsored by Robin Kelly.

Robin, who represents Homewood and Flossmoor in Congress, had 37 students in her district submit their works for judging.  "I'm very proud to have such a beautiful painting and remarkable young artist representing the 2nd District. Our community truly is home to many talented young artists," Robin Kelly said.

The painting will be displayed in the Cannon access tunnel to the U.S. Capitol for the next year. Read more...

Debra A. Cafaro, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ventas, Inc., has been elected Chair of the Real Estate Roundtable ("RER") for their fiscal year beginning July 1, 2018. The Real Estate Roundtable, led by President and CEO Jeffrey D. DeBoer, brings together leaders of the nation's top real estate ownership, development, lending and management firms to address key national policy issues relating to real estate and the overall economy. JOYCELYN WINNECKE IS NEW PRESIDENT OF THE YWCA METRO CHICAGO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Joycelyn Winnecke took the reins this week (July 1) as President of the YWCA Metro Chicago board of directors. "I am honored to work alongside fellow Chicago Network member and YWCA CEO Dorri McWhorter at this time of growth and evolution to a market-driven social enterprise.  Our mission is huge but simply stated -- eliminating racism and empowering women. The work has never been more important '' Joycelyn Winnecke said.  
 
YWCA Metro Chicago reaches 250,000 women each year at all stages of need through child care provider services, economic empowerment, sexual violence support and other family support. LINDA COBERLY DEFENDS MORDRED AT  MOCK TRIAL WITH U.S. SUPREME COURT JUSTICES
Linda Coberly of Winston & Strawn LLP recently appeared for the defense in a mock oral argument at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., presented by the theatre's Bard Association. Linda defended the character Mordred from  Camelot before a distinguished panel of real-life judges:  U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, and Elena Kagan, Justice Suzanne Côté of the Canadian Supreme Court, and Judge Patricia Millett of the D.C. Circuit. U.S. Solicitor General Noel Francisco appeared on behalf of the Kingdom of Camelot. She is happy to report that Mordred was acquitted by the Court (and also won the popular vote). Chicago Foundation for Women (K. Sujata) is pleased to announce the election of five new members to its Board of Directors. Joining the Board of Directors are James L. Alexander, Joan Trueheart Bacon, Regina Cross, Michael Narciso and Kathleen McDonald, effective July 1.

"Our new board members bring with them diverse backgrounds from across Chicago's business and nonprofit sectors, and are ready to put their expertise to work solving the most pressing issues facing women and girls in our region," CFW President/CEO K. Sujata said.
