Greetings from Iowa City 
 
We hope that you and your family have had a great start to 2017! All of us in International Programs appreciate your support throughout the past year. We'd like to share some quick facts about the university's achievements in internationalization:

In 2016, the University of Iowa 
  • awarded about 1,000 degrees to international students
  • was home to 4300 international students from 114 different countries
  • hosted 16 international alumni events (see the map below)
  • hosted a series of pre-departure orientations in China, connecting with hundreds of prospective and incoming students and their parents
  • was again named a "top producer" of U.S. Fulbright students by the Chronicle of Higher Education with 15 awardees
  • reached over 5,500 active members on international social media platforms
  • produced graduation ceremonies with commentary in Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, and Farsi      
University of Iowa alumni live around the world and International Programs is working to stay connected with Hawkeyes in a variety of ways. Let us know if you have ideas! We look forward to furthering our international alumni engagement in the new year!

NEWS
Finding love in Iowa
Iowa City is a place of milestones for Wu Hao and Wu Ximeng. For the two University of Iowa graduates, the town is where they became enamored of the UI community, pursued their education, found love, and, later, returned to marry. Read more. 
New international IOWA Clubs 
In 2016, IOWA Clubs for alumni living internationally were started in London, Beijing, and Shanghai. The clubs serve as a community for alumni who wish to stay in touch with the UI and reconnect with college acquaintances or make new UI friends while also growing the UI brand internationally. 
Iowa's man in Japan
93-year-old Hiroyuki "Larry" Kasuga feared he might not be able to reach his educational goals in Japan's difficult post-war period. He considers his experience at the UI a blessing, as it paved the way to fulling career with IBM in Japan and led to friendships that have lasted a lifetime.  Read more.
 
Virtual Homecoming 2016
Virtual Homecoming is a chance to share memories from your time at the UI and reconnect with your alma mater, regardless of where you are in the world. During International Education Week 2016, we featured 7 alumni living and working across the world. Read more.
