Lakewood Yacht Club Congratulates 2018-2019 National Sea Scout Boatswain Jack Otto
LYC proudly supports the Sea Scout program and the work they do teaching seamanship to young men and women
Seabrook, TX, April 17, 2018 - Local youth Jack Otto has been selected as the 2018-2019 National Sea Scout Boatswain.

Jack is a member of Ship 468, which Lakewood Yacht Club supports by hosting Sea Scout vessels and programs.

"Ship 468 meets Tuesday nights at the Reeves Strickler (Power Squadron ) Building at LYC where we work with young men and women ages 14 up to 21 covering seamanship, citizenship, and leadership," says Ship 468 Skipper Rob Freas.

An avid sailor and racer, Jack has raced in several LYC-hosted regattas including the Bay Cup series, and the Heald Bank and the Harvest Moon Regattas aboard the Sea Scout Training Vessel Sirly, Sea Scout Ship 468’s flagship.  

"Our Sea Scouting program has been greatly enhanced by the substantial support we have received from Lakewood Yacht Club," added Freas. "The Club's generosity has enabled us to work with young men and women like Jack to become successful sailors and emerging leaders."

Skipper Freas, Bay Area Council Executive Charlie Tinsley and Lakewood Yacht Club Commodore Ashley Walker were at LYC on April 11 to witness Area 3 Commodore Art Mowad present Jack his Certificate of Congressional Recognition .

"Lakewood is honored to be associated with Sea Scouts, congratulates Jack on his accomplishments and wishes him luck in his endeavors to become a marine architect," expressed LYC Commodore Walker.

Jack offers his gratitude to the Club, as well. "I want to thank Lakewood Yacht Club for letting the Sea Scouts use the facilities and making my scouting career possible."
