On Monday we celebrated the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. From its earliest beginnings, the Church has held Mary, the mother of Jesus, in great esteem. She is called the Mother of God, Mother of the Church, and our own Blessed Mother. As Catholics, we show our devotion to Mary by inviting her to pray with us and for us. One way of doing this is by using the rosary and thinking about the events in her life and the life of her son. During the month of October, as a school, we recite a decade of the rosary during our morning prayer each day. As we pray, it often brings a sense of quiet and peace that helps us to reflect on the mysteries of the rosary and in so doing, helps us to grow closer in our relationship with God.

Don't forget to tune in this Saturday night to Real to Reel, the Catholic Communications television show (NBC at 7:00pm) They will be airing the segment covering our 10th anniversary Mass.

Enjoy the long holiday weekend!

Peace and God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Grade 3 Happenings

Wow! Who would've thought that September would fly by so fast?

This year, we were lucky enough to get a new science curriculum and the students love it and look forward to it everyday! During the last block of our day, we read an informative page, highlight important information, and do an activity along with it.

We started the year off by being astronomers and examining the solar system. We have learned about the sun, the moon phases, and the earth's movement. When asking the students their favorite parts, the majority of them answered, "moon phases." Other answers included the rotation of earth, sunspots, and moon exploration. Did you know we only see half of the moon at all times? As we have covered the basics of the earth, we will soon be learning about the planets. The students can't wait!

The Anniversary Gala Is In Two Weeks!

There are only 2 weeks left to get your tickets for the 10th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, October 26th beginning at 6 p.m.  Meteorologist Nick Morganelli, a much respected figure in the field of broadcasting for over 30 years, will serve as the emcee for the evening.  The event will honor three couples who have played an integral part in the formation and continued strengthening of St. Michael's Academy.

We hope you can join us for an evening of delicious food stations featuring prime rib, socializing with friends, and browsing over 20 silent auction items and three fantastic lives auction items including a dine out restaurant gift card basket valued at $700, a wagon of cheer valued at $700 and an autographed picture of Rob Gronkowski that will most likely become a collector's item.

 Trunk or Treat

Are You Going To Trunk or Treat?

We wanted to remind families that our annual Trunk or Treat event will be held on Thursday, October 24th beginning at 6 p.m. The event is open to all students and their siblings.  In order to participate, you are asked to provide either one bag of candy or $5 for each person.  We ask that it be submitted to the main office BEFORE the event so we know how much candy we have.

If you would like to volunteer to bring a car, be a candy runner or help with arts and crafts in the gym, please go to
or return the paper version of the volunteer form that can be downloaded  HERE.

Don't miss the fun...it's a howling good time!

Drumming

Grade 3 Hitting The Sticks

If you saw your coffee shaking in its mug last Wednesday, it wasn't an earthquake...it was our 3rd grade students in their drumming class! They already sound fantastic under the guidance of Rick Marshall from the Community Music School of Springfield!

We look forward to their drumming recital right before Christmas!

Food For Thought

"Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace in the world."
