The financial statement for the first five months of the year remains extremely positive, so much so that little need be said. Pledges are coming in timely or early, and expenses are staying within what is a truly balanced budget. Thank you all for your on-going support.

Outreach Ministry Updates
WindowDressers
The Deer Isle Window Dresser measuring team led by Miriam Antich has practiced it's laser and tape measure technique and is ready to roll. Please help with soliciting orders so we can go out and exercise our skills. People have been asking whether we will be building inserts on the island again this year because the workshop is an enjoyable, productive, community-building experience. The earlier Workshop date will allow more people to join in, but we need orders!
Thanks for anything you can do to raise awareness among your family, friends, and acquaintances about this opportunity to save money and fuel, and build community.

Women's Wilderness Trip: September 4-7, 2018
Join us at Camp Bishopswood, the Diocese of Maine's own summer camp, which offers the essentials of what we have loved about our time apart in the Maine woods: a beautiful natural location, a rustic, environmentally respectful facility and privacy for our group with canoeing, kayaking and hiking at our doorstep and good meals provided.
While this is a departure from the treasured remote wilderness of Katahdin that those who experienced it will never forget, we believe Bishopswood offers the key requirement for us: a place and time for spiritual connection to the creation and each other at a different level than our everyday island life provides.
Bishopswood is about an hour and a half drive from Deer Isle. The facility was built as a girls' sports camp in the 1930s and retains the flavor of that genre and time. The cabins are communal; many now have indoor plumbing -even hot and cold water! Additionally there are two shower houses with several toilets each. The handsome lodge houses the dining hall and separate attractive gathering area with piano and open fireplace.
Laura Gertner, part-time summer cook at the camp and year-round baker of delectable items sampled at the Lincolnville General Store, has agreed to cater our meals.
Here are the details:
- Reservations currently being taken.
- $100 deposit due by July 15 (refundable until Aug. 1) will secure your place. Balance due Aug. 1st.

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost:
An experience common to all God's messengers in the Bible was the rejection of their ministry and message by their own people. In today's reading from Mark, we hear of Jesus being rejected in his home synagogue, in which he quotes the old saying about prophets among their own people. Then he sends the twelve disciples out preaching to extend his message and ministry, warning them that they also will face rejection.
The Old Testament tells of David becoming king in fact. After Saul's death he ruled the land of the tribe of Judah. But now the people of all the tribes accept him. He conquers the city of Jerusalem and makes it his capital and extends his rule. The kingdom of David became one of the powers of the ancient Middle East.
Our reading from 2 Corinthians is the conclusion of this letter in which, having been rejected by some of those in the Corinthian church, and having been provoked to boast of his courage and ministry, Paul then ascribes whatever virtue or success he has had to God working in him.
As we gather in liturgy, we remember that we are a part of that people whose story is the continuation of the biblical story. That story recalls not only our faithfulness, but also our rebellion. Above all, however, it recalls the fact that even at our worst God has nevertheless remained faithful to us and continues to call us into ministry and witness in the world. Will we respond at our best or at our worst? Will we reject the call or will we accept it?

We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
