Peachjar eFlyers

Last year, FVSD began utilizing an electronic flyer distribution system, Peachjar, in an effort to improve communication, ensure a strong link between home and school, and to enhance community support and involvement in our schools. Every school, the District Office, and outside organizations uses Peachjar to distribute district-approved e-flyers to families district wide .  We are excited about the addition of Peachjar and look forward to this means of communication! FACILITIES MASTER PLAN (FMP)

District staff, parents, Trustees, community leaders, and even students have worked together with LPA Architects, Inc. to create a detailed Facilities Master Plan (FMP).  The District's newly developed FMP identifies a vision for the next 10 to 15 years and provides a road map to coordinate short and long-range goals for our school buildings.

We hope everyone had a relaxing and fun spring break, spending time with friends and loved ones. It's hard to believe that it's mid-April already, but we are moving into our final push toward the end of the school year. And as you know, spring is one of the busiest times of the year for our staff, students and families.

In this issue, we...
  • Welcome Your Family to the 16th Annual District Art Show
  • Congratulate Newland & Courreges, CA Distinguished Schools
  • Invite You to Join Us at the Taste of Fountain Valley
  • Celebrate Students and Parents
As always, thank you for everything that you do to support teaching and learning!

Kindly,
Mark Johnson, Ed.D.

HIGHLIGHT: Courreges and Newland Elementary Schools Earn California Distinguished School Award - The State's Highest Honor
Newland and Courreges Named CA Distinguished Schools

Congratulations to Courreges and Newland Elementary Schools for being named California Distinguished Schools. Every year, the California Department of Education honors K-12 schools for providing an overall exemplary educational program. This is the highest award handed down by the State, and provides greater evidence for all of the wonderful things happening in FVSD!

This is the second California Distinguished School Award for Courreges and the third for Newland.  As part of the selection process, applications were completed, and each school highlighted a model program. Courreges spotlighted their Differentiation, Innovation and Technology Program, which places a high emphasis on meeting the diverse needs of their students. Newland shared their Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) program, founded in a philosophy that places a stronger emphasis on each student's conceptual understanding in math.

Please join me in congratulating both schools on earning this exceptional honor!!
JOIN US: Taste of Fountain Valley - April 21st
One of the most exciting events of the school year is the Taste of Fountain Valley!  For years, this event has served as a nexus for bringing our schools and community together to celebrate!  This year, we have 30+ restaurant and vendor partners, and they will all be sharing some of their best food and beverages with the crowd.  In addition, all proceeds from the evening go to support the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation and their mission to enrich each of our student's academic experience by providing cutting edge technology and resources to inspire them to think, create and achieve.  For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit tasteoffountainvalley.com.  We hope to see you there!
HIGHLIGHT:   Board Honors Students and Parents from Tamura and Oka Schools and Celebrates Admin of the Year, Kathy Davis
Tamura Oka Recognitions
Each month, the Board honors students and volunteers from our schools, during their regular meeting, in an event that can only be described as amazing!  Recently, family, friends and staff joined the Board in celebrating some of our outstanding Tamura and Oka students, in addition to thanking our dedicated volunteers.
From Tamura School, the Board honored Arthur Nguyen (TK), Jason Flores (K), Tatum Dao (1st), Luana Kotani (2nd), Isla Crooks (3rd), Kaden Coffman (4th), and Ava Roque (5th).  From Oka School, the Board celebrated Natalia Rodriguez (K), Emma Muldorf (1st), Hailey Acosta (2nd), Chloe Gordon (3rd), Ema Terada (4th), and Jered Yagi (5th).

In addition, the Board thanked some very special volunteers for their dedication to our students and staff. From Tamura School, the Board recognized and thanked Adria McDonald and Louise Proli.  And from Oka School, the Board recognized and thanked Allison Westrup and Marisa Campbell.  In addition, Tamura Girl Scout Troop 5311 did a wonderful job leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

Prior to our recognitions, the Board of Trustees joined parents and staff in celebrating our District Administrator of the Year, Tamura School Principal Kathy Davis.  The Board was honored to have the opportunity to present Mrs. Davis with this much-deserved recognition.

It was a phenomenal evening, enjoyed by all, and a great celebration of our students, staff and volunteers!  Just one more reason why #WeHeartFVSD!
