Strawberry Shortcake on a Hot Summer Day

strawberry_cheesecake.jpg
Strawberry shortcake was enjoyed at the June 6 social event held at Panorama's shelter house on Boulder Beach. Even though it was a very warm day, the light breeze and shade kept us comfortable. John Dinnebier, General Manager, at Lake Panorama National Resort & Conference Center was our guest speaker. He provided historical and current events taking place at the lake. The most current change includes the building of the pickle ball, tennis and basketball courts on Main Beach. Since our social event, it was announced that John is leaving the LPN to become the general manager at Briarwood Golf Course in Ankeny. John has always been a good friend of the GCSB Heritage Club and we all wish him the best on his new venture!

Watch Out for This Debit Card Activation Scam

( Information courtesy of SHAZAM)

When you dial an unfamiliar phone number, it's not too hard to be off by one digit, especially if you're distracted or in a hurry. Unfortunately, fraudsters have devised a sneaky way to cash in on this simple slip of a finger.

A recent scam involves fraudsters obtaining phone numbers that are slightly different from valid debit card activation numbers. This scam can affect any
cardholder who happens to dial a card activation phone number incorrectly.

HOW THE SCAM WORKS
1. A cardholder misdials the phone number for card activation.
2. A fraudster, who has procured similar phone numbers specifically for this scam, answers the call.
3. The cardholder says he or she needs to activate a card.
4. The fraudster tells the cardholder that he or she
has reached the right place, but the interactive voice response (IVR) system is down and that's why he or she is talking to a live person.
5. The fraudster asks the cardholder for personal information, such as card number, expiration date, account number or Social Security number. The fraudster may even attempt to sell the cardholder gift cards.

The SHAZAM card activation system uses an interactive voice response system only. If the system is down, cardholders will be instructed to call back at another time. If you have a Guthrie County State Bank Debit EMV or ATM card and have questions about activation, please contact us.
Mystery Trip Recap

The mystery was solved as we traveled to Chillicothe, MO, for lunch. Then we were treated by taking a tour with the mural artist, Kelly Poling, to view 21 breathtaking, larger-than-life, one-of-a-kind murals that tell a story around each corner. We departed for Hannibal, MO, and spent the next two days enjoying hometowns of Walt Disney and Mark Twain. We went to the actual cave young Sam Clemens played in as a child followed by a riverboat dinner cruise. Then we were off to Springfield, IL, where we visited President Abraham Lincoln's monument, Presidential library and museum followed by the Old State Capital and Knox College. Fun and laughter filled our mystery trip days
Louisville Trip Review

Wow! What a trip. Take a look at this wonderful recap and testimonial from GCSB Heritage Club members, Kent & Shirley Stephenson:

We recently went to Louisville, KY on our first GCSB Heritage Club bus tour. The entire experience was all very positive. We were treated like royalty and there was never a dull moment.

We went on a walking tour of Churchill Downs and were able to watch some of the Derby horses train. What a great experience to be so close to those magnificent animals. We experienced an airshow and were able to meet the pilots and crew at a cocktail party. We also enjoyed the world's largest fireworks display in a private condo overlooking the river. We went to the Louisville Slugger baseball bat museum, Evan Williams Bourbon Distillery, a pottery factory and were treated to a stage production of "Oklahoma" at the Derby Theatre, and oh yes, the food was magnificent during the whole week long trip.

Our sincere thank you to our tour guides, Vicki & Kim.  They planned a really fun and educational trip.  It will not be our last.
