It's officially summer and things are sizzling in Swarthmore Town Center! Read on to learn more about what's happening in July, including the Independence Day festivities in town, First Friday, and Thursday Night Live! And be sure to visit our website for a directory of shops, restaurants, and services.

Pre-Independence Day 8K and 2.5 Mile Walk

Online registration for the Lions Club's Pre-Independence Day 8K and 2.5 mile walk is now open! The race occurs on Wednesday, July 3 staring at 7 pm.

The entry fee for both the race and the walk is $30 and $35 on race day. Onsite, race day registration will start at 5 pm at Borough Hall on Park Avenue. Awards will be presented to the first three male and female runners and to the first three male and female runners in 9 age groups. Refreshments will be served after the race. 

Proceeds from the race will support the charitable activities of the Lions Club which include the Delaware Valley Eye Bank and the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester.

The Lions are need of volunteers to direct and cheer on the runners along the course and hand out water at three stations. If interested in helping out, please contact Jim Ryan at 610-909-3127 or [email protected].

History of European Art
Thursdays from 10 am - 12 pm
A History of European Art is your gateway to this visually stunning story. In 48 beautifully illustrated lectures you will encounter all the landmarks you would expect to find in a comprehensive survey of Western art since the Middle Ages. Works such as Giotto's Arena Chapel, Van Eyck's Ghent Altarpiece, Leonardo's The Last Supper, Michelangelo's David, Vermeer's View of Delft, Van Gogh's The Starry Night, Picasso's Guernica, and hundreds more. Watercolor Workshop with Sasha Prood
Monday, July 22 from 10 am - 12 pm 
Sasha Prood is an illustrator and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She is an alumni of Carnegie Mellon's School of Design, The Cooper Union, and the School of Visual Arts. Sasha has received awards and recognition from national design magazines, and her work has been featured in books, magazines, and blogs, including ELLE Interiors, Apartment Therapy, and Oh Joy! The Great Swarthmore Scavenger Hunt
The scavenger hunt is back! Come to the library to get clues that will take you around Swarthmore. When you find the secret word at each location, return to the library to get the next clue. Complete the scavenger hunt to be invited to an end of summer ice cream party at Little Crum Creek Park. Those who can arrange the words into the correct phrase will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize!

Summer Quest 2019
Come by the library to pick up a Summer Quest game board. Complete the activities and when you reach a prize square, return to the library to get a prize! Some activities include drawing, doing a science experiment, visiting a park, and of course, READING! To register for Summer Quest, visit   swarthmorepubliclibrary.org/children.
 
Wonderful Wednesdays at the Swarthmore Public Library

Held outside in the amphitheater (weather permitting), the Library host several special performances with puppeteers, magicians, scientists, musicians, and more! Suitable for all ages.  Here is the line-up for July:
July 10:  Story Up! is an interactive improv show based on stories and ideas from the kids.

Laughter Yoga: Free Session on July 12

Don't we all need a good laugh? Laughter meets Yoga in this 
unique experience that bring people together, through de-stressing and uplifting giggles.  A typical session includes laughter, movement, singing, dancing, breathing exercises, playfulness and stillness. It will be an up-lifting, energizing and joyful experience, a great way to feel more creative, experimental and free.

When you laugh, you are in the present moment and you forget your problems. This laughter becomes a gift to yourself and an excellent way to connect with others. You will learn how to process life's challenges in a more productive way.
