Mushroom House Tours
Edith Pair, known around town as the “Mushroom Lady” has been giving tours of the Earl Young Mushroom Houses since 2009, but it is only the third summer with the GEM car, appropriately named “Petunia”. Since adding the GEM car, business has soared.
The Mushroom Houses have really taken on a life of their own. On the tour, Edith tours all 28 Mushroom Houses while giving history on each. She also adds in Charlevoix history throughout the 45-minute tour. Edith says that she enjoys seeing the looks on her customers faces when they witness the magic of Earl Young’s creations. That’s what makes her do 8 tours a day, 7 days a week.
In addition to Mushroom House Tours, she has added a daily “Charlevoix the Beautiful” sunset tour where she takes you around the beautiful city of Charlevoix. Mushroom House Tours run Sunday- Saturday 10am-6pm, and the “Charlevoix the Beautiful” sunset tour runs daily at 7pm.
With limited space, please call ahead to reserve a spot. Call 231-445-0770 or visit

Momentum Builds for Soo Locks Upgrade
|
|
A new study on the Soo Locks released by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers last week dramatically improved the benefit-cost ratio for its proposed upgrade, generating more momentum for this key infrastructure upgrade supported by the Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance.
“Upgrading the Soo Locks is essential to our economy, not just in Michigan but across the entire nation,” Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said. “The Army Corps study released today reinforces the pivotal role the Locks play in our economy and the need to make this upgrade a priority for funding. The significance of this project cannot be overstated.” Gov. Snyder recently pledged $50 million in state funds to leverage federal dollars toward the project, and has urged neighboring Great Lakes states to do the same.
to view a report from the Detroit Free Press on the latest Soo Locks developments.
Businesses across Northern Michigan are being urged to get behind the Soo Locks upgrade by adding their names to the
#fixthesoolocks
initiative. Advocating for federal funding for the work will be happening soon, so it’s important to show federal lawmakers the widespread support from the region’s business sector for this critical infrastructure project.
