Remember motor oil and water do not mix. You can cannot simply through oil in a trash can. You must dispose of motor oil properly.
Here are a few tips if you decide to change your own car's oil.
1.
Drain motor oil into a drain pan. Clean up spills with an absorbent material such as cat litter. Any absorbent material containing motor oil must be disposed of properly as well. Do not hose down the area.
2.
Collect the oil in a clean plastic or metal container with a tightly sealed lid. You can reuse the original motor oil container.
3.
Take your oil to a recycling center near you.
