Baldwin County School District Honors Veterans |
|
This Veterans Day, the Baldwin County School District found creative ways to honor our employees who have served in a branch of the United States Armed Forces. A tribute video was created to honor those men and women in our school district who have given many years of service to protect our freedom. The video was showcased on the Baldwin County School District YouTube Channel. In addition to our tribute video, we also recognized our veteran employees at the November 10th school board meeting. School district leaders visited all employees who have served in the United States Armed Forces to honor them for their service to this country, presenting them with a certificate of recognition and patriotic gifts of gratitude. The pictures were displayed at the school board meeting in a virtual recognition ceremony.

For Veterans Day, Mrs. Tyson & Mrs. Harper’s class made thank you notes for Veterans. The notes went to Lakeview Primary staff members as well as veterans at Comfort Farms. |

Baldwin County Schools Virtual Art Exhibit "Together, Apart" Available through Allied Arts |
|
Artwork from students at Baldwin County Schools is now on display in 3-D online Allied Arts galleries. In past years, the exhibit has been on display at Allied Arts, but this year, the artistic talent of our students can be viewed virtually. The exhibit titled "Together, Apart" features over 200 Baldwin County students from each grade level from Kindergarten to grade 12. The "Together, Apart" theme of the students' work explores the impact of COVID-19 through virtual and in-person art experiences. The exhibit will be on display from November 9 - November 30. REACH Scholars

Congratulations to the 2020 cohort of REACH Scholars: Heymi Arguello Espinoza, Hannah Dawson, Eboni McKnight, Nasir Giles, and Kaitlyn Teague.
REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) is the State of Georgia’s first needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. The mission is to ensure that Georgia’s academically promising students have the academic, social, and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college, and achieve post-secondary success.
Beginning in the 8th grade and through high school, REACH Scholars are paired with a mentor and an academic coach. Scholars must maintain good grades (2.5+ HOPE Calculated GPA), behavior, and attendance. Scholars who successfully complete the program and graduate from high school are awarded a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500/year) that can be used at a HOPE-eligible University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia, or private postsecondary institution. If the REACH Scholars attend a partner college or university such as Georgia College, Central Georgia Technical College, or Georgia Military College, they will receive a $20,000 scholarship. The scholarship is in addition to any other grant or scholarship the student receives.
The REACH Signing Ceremony is scheduled for December 15 at Oak Hill Middle School. At the signing day ceremony, much how athletes commit to colleges for sports programs, our REACH scholars will be committing to the meeting or exceeding the rigorous academic and behavioral standards outlined in the program.

Congratulations to Baldwin High School's 2020 Homecoming King and Queen Erick Machado and Ikiria Thornton as well as the 2020 crowned Princes and Princesses: 9th Grade Prince: Jaylon Lester, 9th Grade Princess: Diamond Liggins; 10th Grade Prince: Tyler Smith, 10th Grade Princess: Moriah Webster; 11th Grade Prince: Mark Farley, 11th Grade Princess: Carmelia Darrisaw.The high school had an amazing 2020 Homecoming night, with the undefeated Baldwin Braves securing a win against the Spalding Jaguars. The Baldwin County School District was recognized for being awarded the 2020 Georgia Charter System of the Year title by the Charter System Foundation. The board also recognized Superintendent Dr. Noris Price for being selected as a 2021 Superintendent of the Year Finalist by the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) and for completing the one-year Superintendent Executive Leadership Program conducted by GSSA. The Baldwin County School District, as well as each Baldwin County school was recognized for receiving Accreditation through June 30, 2024 by meeting the criteria for educational quality established by the Cognia Global Commission formerly known as AdvancEd/SACS. November is Family Engagement Month |
|
November is designated as Family Engagement Month, which celebrates the crucial role parents and families play in their children's education. According to research from the U.S. Department of Education's Family and Community Engagement Team, family engagement is an essential component of a child's educational development. The positive outcomes of engaged parents include improved cognitive development and academic performance, better social-emotional development, and improved family well-being. Of all the factors that determine student outcomes, family engagement is at the top of the list. Partnerships between schools and families can improve students’ grades, attendance, persistence, and motivation. Research shows that this is true regardless of a family’s race or income.
To kick off Family Engagement Month, the Baldwin County School District began holding virtual Parent University sessions. The first one was held Saturday, November 14, 2020 via Google Meet. In this session, the following topics were addressed:
- Getting Children Motivated to Read
- Creating a Learning Environment at Home
- Math Skills for Parents
- Helping PEC Students with Routine
The school district will host more Parent University sessions throughout the month of November as part of our Family Engagement Month activities. There will also be Family Lunch & Learn virtual session held on Thursday, November 19, 2020, designated as Family Engagement Day.

BCSD Shows Baldwin Pride During Spirit Week |
|
The month of November began with Baldwin pride enthusiasm as Baldwin County schools geared up for Homecoming with Spirit Week activities. Staff at the Board of Education decided to start a new tradition and join in on the Spirit Week fun with the BOE version of Spirit Week activities. The week began with Crazy Sock Day, where some of our BOE staff members came to work dressed in their most unique and interesting legwear. The next day was called Bring a Book Day. Participants chose books to bring to work to share with their fellow co-workers, and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that there are authors right here in our district family. Wednesday, the staff came dressed in college colors to Represent a College or University Day. Our college pride was followed by seeing double during Twinning it, where colleagues teamed up to dress like twins. Midway Hills Academy Students
Prepare for the Future

For Red Ribbon Week, the Midway Mustangs showed what it means to work hard to stay drug-free by dressing for the profession they want to have in the future! They came dressed as Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, Policemen, Architects, Paleontologists, Basketball Players, Football Players, Chefs, Teachers, Models, Firemen, Singers, Presidents, Army Soldiers, and Stay-at-home Mothers., Retired professionals, players, Entrepreneurs, Army soldiers, and did we say TEACHERS Every October, schools, and organizations across the country join the STOMP OUT Bullying campaign by observing National Bullying Prevention Month. The goal of the initiative is to encourage schools, communities, and organizations to work together to stop bullying and cyberbullying and put an end to hatred and racism by increasing awareness of the prevalence and impact of all forms of bullying on all children of all ages. At Midway Hills Academy, students lead a campaign to stomp out bullying by organizing MHA's Unity Day, held Thursday, Oct. 22nd. Students and teachers wore purple, signed anti-bullying pledges, and lined the hallways with them in a show of solidarity against bullying.

First grade students at Midway Hills Primary are working hard on their "How To" writing skills. In Mrs. Hopkins’ class, students made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to demonstrate the importance of following specific steps. They then wrote about each step. |

Early Learning Center Students Hold
Election Day Activities

The votes are in at the Early Learning Center. To learn more about the process of an election, ELC held its own election on Election Day--choosing your favorite ice cream. The winners are: Green Pod-Vanilla, Red Pod-Strawberry, Yellow Pod-Strawberry, Purple Pod-Strawberry and Virtual Pod-Vanilla! The overall winner for the ELC was Strawberry ice cream! The students were treated to a taste of their winning flavor. |

Lakeview Academy Holding Disguise
the Turkey Contest

In an effort to help a turkey escape the fate of becoming Thanksgiving dinner, Lakeview Academy is asking students to help Disguise the Turkey. The contest asks students to use items that they have around the house to dress the turkey up so he or she can't be found. Some very creative entries have already started to come in. Completed turkeys are due to the Lakeview Academy Media center by Monday, November 16th. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. |

Georgia College Early College 8th Grade Students Take History Lesson to the Streets |

Georgia College Early College 8th grade students walked to downtown Milledgeville to see where Marion Stembridge took 3 lives, including his own, in 1953. It’s said that his ghost is still wandering around. As they walked up Hancock Street, Mrs. Smith pointed out the Masonic Hall which was occupied by Union Troops during the Civil War and also served as the Freeman’s Bureau during reconstruction. |

BCSD Supports Breast Cancer

Baldwin County Board of Education staff showed up wearing pink shirts on Friday, October 30th, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. This is an annual health campaign to help increase attention and support for the awareness, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer.

Baldwin Success Academy Students Learn About Courtesy & Impulse Control |

Students at the Baldwin Success Academy began the month of November with a lesson in courtesy--the character education word for the first week of November. Lessons were held on well-mannered conduct, which results in polite treatment of others. Students also discussed what impulse control is and the consequences of a pyrrhic victory. |

Never worry about where your child's bus is ever again! Thanks to the new and innovative technology that the Baldwin County School District has invested. As a result, parents of our students can now get real-time updates of their child's bus location through the MyStop app, which is available for download in the iTunes or Android marketplaces.
MyStop provides parents, and parents only, a live look at their child's bus while in transit using GPS technology. Parents can see the exact location of the bus as it's moving along its route and can even provide an estimated time of arrival.
