A PERSONAL NOTE
Hi,
NEW! ~ Readings now available on Skype, recorded
. ~ NEW!
I had an interesting experience at a check-out counter recently.
Because I needed a rain-check, I was unfortunately delaying the person behind me in the line, so I turned around and apologized to her for causing the delay. She, in turn, asked the cashier, in a polite enough way, if someone else could come to the counter to check her out as she was in a hurry. And the staff did so to accommodate her. She was able to finish and leave the store before me, at which point my cashier turned to her colleague and said, "Wasn't that woman so rude?". She then repeated what the woman had requested, but in a very negative tone of voice.
I was astounded! My reality was that the customer had spoken appropriately. But the cashier's reality was that the woman had berated her and been nasty. The cashier tried to engage me in her account, to get a back-up witness, I guess. But I remained neutral, saying "Well, she was in a hurry, and I tend to let those type of things roll off of me."
There is no right or wrong in this little episode. It's more a case of different perceptions. Like in the old Japanese classic movie "Rashomon", everybody sees reality from their own point of view, and it could differ tremendously between them.
I came away from this rather startling episode more aware than ever that we all structure our daily reality through the lens of our own emotions, past history, and personality. For instance, maybe the cashier had to take a lot of verbal abuse in her job, and had some frayed nerves. This could be extrapolated to a debate about our completely polarized and antagonistic political points of view, and how we see the story of our individual lives and our country's life so differently.
When enough people share one reality but it's totally opposite from the reality of another very large group, we get chaos. I guess the only way to handle that is by appreciating how unique we all are, and how interesting it might be to simply observe our fellow humans' various views of life.
Smiles and love as always,

JULY 2019 ASTRO TIDBITS
For the World, old problems regarding big institutions (e.g., governments, banks, corporations) hang around during the first half of the month (
Saturn conjunct South Node in Capricorn
). On the 2nd, new energy applies to caretaking, home and property matters, and innovations (
Solar Eclipse in Cancer trine Uranus
). Power struggles are major on the 14th (
Pluto opposite Sun
), with much tension over funds and monies that may reach completion from the 16th to 22nd (
Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn conjunct Pluto, opposite Venus/Mercury; Pluto opposite Venus
). The 19th offers idealism, romance or spirituality (
Neptune trine Venus
).
For the U.S., Week 1 is very active: there is less delusion (
Pluto trine U.S. Neptune
), we can be quite assertive militarily (
Jupiter sextile U.S. progressed Mars
), and enjoy excellent good fortune on the earliest days (
Uranus sextile U.S. Jupiter, trine U.S. progressed Ascendant
). The 7th is helpful to revisit negotiations (
Mercury station retrograde in Leo
). However, the first third of the month indicates lots of frustration (
Saturn square U.S. progressed Mars
). Mid-month favors business as long as excess is avoided (
Jupiter sextile U.S. Saturn, square U.S. progressed Sun
). Military might is shown on the 21st-22nd (
Mars trine U.S. Ascendant
). Week 4 can be slow for business (
Saturn opposite U.S. progressed Jupiter
).
For President Trump, a shift into practical efforts and dedication to his work begins (
his progressed Moon enters Virgo
). On the 1st, he is a bit of a gambler (
Jupiter sextile his Jupiter, opposite his Uranus/progressed Node
). He faces the need to compromise during the first third (
Pluto quinqunx his Sun
) but slowness can be okay (
Saturn square his Jupiter
). He is frustrated but sensible on the 6th (
Mars conjunct progressed Saturn
). The second third sees a build-up of his energy and influence (
Mars conjunct his progressed Midheaven/Pluto/progressed Pluto/progressed Mercury
). The 24th-25th give cause to celebrate, and he is quite "the man" (
Venus conjunct his Venus, square his progressed Jupiter
). His polls are mixed by month's end (
Venus square his progressed Ascendant, conjunct his progressed Saturn
).

There is a concept in metaphysics called the Life Review. It refers to the soul's review of the recent lifetime from its unique perspective. The soul's perspective on the incidents that comprise one's journey is, of course, different from that of the personality's because the soul has chosen its experiences before incarnation, and now chooses to evaluate what was expected versus what was encountered... all of which lead to the accumulation of wisdom.
Many of us often review our lives while we are in the here-and-now. We may reminisce; we may look through old photos; we may think about relationships that are passed, even those that have passed on; and mourn or cherish these. We may have certain regrets about actions taken or not taken. This is normal and common, and constitutes a review while you are "inside" the incarnation. These reviews are colored by emotion and physical health, and the general perspective is that of being "lost" in one's drama. In other words, there is only a certain amount of detachment based on an individual's makeup that applies.
However, this type of life review would differ greatly from that of the soul's, once liberated from the body. A soul's life review looks at experiences and relationships and emotions from the point of view of their value to that person's spiritual evolution. Therefore, a painful human experience might be a treasure from the soul's point of view, for it has resulted in greater compassion, whereas an enjoyable indulgence in pleasures from the soul's point of view might represent wasted energy and little gain. I'm not saying this is true of all pleasant experiences, nor even of the painful ones. I'm merely explaining the shift in point of view between these very different perspectives.
It's good to understand this because there is nothing stopping anyone from doing a soul type of life review while one is still here in the physical vehicle. In fact, it's a means of empowerment to do so because one can begin to own the difficult challenges, appreciate the strengths or insights they give, and see their silver linings from a whole new viewpoint. Many people already naturally do this. It simply requires a shift in your core identity. Are you, for example, Judi, going through her various ups and downs from day to day or year to year, or are you, for example, Judi's higher self - her soul - looking apart, or from on high, or with the detachment that comes with an out-of-body point of view, and evaluating from that new way what the life has offered?
Try it. Practice it. Do it in as many opportunities as you can, because it will take you right out of victimhood and into an aspect of mastery. Good luck!

BOOK REVIEW:
"Ancient Astrology" - by Tamsyn Barton (Routledge, 1994)
This book was written by a Cambridge scholar who devoted part of her Ph.D. to the study of ancient astrology (although she originally set out to look into "Women and the Irrational: Magic, Cult and Madness" but realized she had to first delve into astrology in antiquity). Although somewhat formal in writing style, the book is helpful in that she provides each chapter with Summary, and then a Conclusion to the book itself.
In the beginning of the Common Era (CE), some claimed that astrology had begun very early in antiquity by the Chaldeans, either 400,000 or 49,000 years earlier than the Roman Empire. It made its way from Babylon, to Egypt, then Greece, then to Rome, and also to the Byzantine Empire. Early astrology was no more than Sun worship, and stars and planets were seen as the gods in the heavens. Such type of observation was equivalent to early astronomy, and can thus be considered as earliest science as well.
There is a continuity to the research and knowledge of astrology. The earliest horoscopes (Babylonian) are found in the end of the 5th c. BCE, wherein the birth data included the weather, but there were no interpretations of the life until around 200 BCE. The ancient Egyptian contribution was the calendar; ancient Greeks reformed the calendar, and began to use the Ascendant. Plato pronounced that stars and human souls are related. Babylonians were the first to follow the waxing and waning of the Moon in human affairs; in Egypt's Alexandria, around 72 BCE, the god Hermes (Thrice-Blessed Hermes Trismegistus) was the impetus for books on Greek astrology that speak of signs, decans, Places, and Lots. Early Greeks produced what we understand now as science, i.e., abstract thinking,
analysis, deduction, and research into natural laws. In the last century BCE, the Romans began to take astrology seriously (e.g., generals would consult, as would the elite). The Emperor Tiberius may have been the first to kill any rivals to the throne whose horoscopes forecast that they might have that type of right stuff!
Astrology was dangerous for emperors but irresistible. It was not trivial but was taken seriously despite skeptics.
The book also covers the early Church's attitude towards astrology because astrology challenged the Church's version of the truth, and had a separate means of explaining God's design. Astrology was stamped out for several centuries, and then resurfaced in 10th c., proving to be remarkably resilient.
The author mentions several ancient astrologers including Firmicus, Vettius Valens, Ptolemy, and Galen who introduced medical astrology based upon the body's humours (i.e., bodily fluids). In her essay, the author uses Prince Charles of England's horoscope, interpreting it in the way that two famous astrologers of the period would do, namely how the planets related to the Places. The results are quite contradictory although there is some amusing if scary accuracy regarding women in the Prince's life. The fact that there were such contradictory results is discussed.
Ancient astrologers divided the world and types of people into various signs but also did not agree between them in that regard. Astrology was not only for the elite; there were street astrologers, and the author looks at the world and society of those eras. Mundane predictions for average people would be quite specific regarding violent deaths, money matters, slaves, love, and their status, much the same as continues nowadays. The world was different then, and no astrologer today, regardless of the method used, would predict that an important personage would have 20 children, many of whom would die, would have runaway slaves, or would meet violent ends through poison, snakebites, or falls from high places.
In short, I enjoyed this book although I had doubts about delving into such a tome. There are some parts that are technical in nature as to systems being used in antiquity to cast the chart or use different methodology to interpret it, but in general it was an interesting read. 4 Stars.

Spirit's Words: Monthly Channeling - July '19
Teachings of The Brotherhood of Light Workers
By Judi Thomases
The following segment has been received, word for word through a psychic process known as channeling. It is an invited procedure. The teachings always serve to guide
us through the journey of life. Compilations of many such messages are available in book, PDF and audio formats:
Compilation of BoLW's Messages
If you wish to fool around with your life and time on Planet Earth, by all means be our guest. You may while away your hours; you may loll around your days; and you may choose to spend your life seeking or running after pleasures and getting little or nothing accomplished. This is personal choice, and does not mean that the life is wasted, for pleasure-seeking and time-wasting is yet another one of the choices one can make during one's journey, as well as choosing the amount of time and energy one wishes to spend on such pursuits.
However, while there are some important things to be learned by the soul who engages in what might be called "time-wasting pursuits," it is a slower journey into enlightenment. The faster way will always be to choose and plan a purpose, a goal, a desired achievement, and to focus energy and manage time towards that end. What the goal is, is not as important from the spiritual point of view as that it is consciously chosen and sought to be brought into manifestation, for when that is the life plan inner forces must be mobilized, concentrated attention must be pursued, and frustrations or obstacles along the way must be encountered and overcome.
These things are the stuff of accelerated enlightenment. The challenge is the game! The game is "won" when the challenge is bested, and some goal reached.
Why is this necessary? Humanity comes into its existence at the stage of its overall journey with a non-enlightened perspective, a cultural training or upbringing that is distant from its divine source, and that does not know, appreciate, or utilize its higher connection. But humanity also holds the key to doing so. The journey for each individual, at each one's differing pace, is to reach the spiritual connection - often called higher consciousness - in fewer rather than more lifetimes. Why is this so? Because lifetimes contain a measure of suffering whereas attaining higher consciousness or spiritual connection brings joy and even bliss. Why would anyone want to prolong the negative and delay the joy? That doesn't make sense, and is not logical, is it? Therefore, understanding life's wisdom game means desiring to tackle challenge and set goals, and enjoy even the frustration along the way, for ahead is a certain golden (not brass) ring to be grabbed.
While away your life, if you so choose, but a far better strategy is to tackle challenge and apply yourself to its attainment as often as possible. You will reach the brass, nay golden, ring that much quicker.
