For the last several years, KCDC has convened a group of dedicated neighbor-hood volunteers to help us prepare the planters around "downtown" Kamm's Corners for The Hooley.

This year, our efforts will be more about clean up and mulching than planting new, as the planters were "fortified" with new plant material last fall by the Kamm's Area Special Improvement District. However, we will also work on the planters on Rocky River Drive near Keybank and the dental building.

Thanks to our friends at Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, we will have their "Citizens Bank Clean and Green Trailer" filled with tools and supplies for the work. If you have a small pruning tool or push broom, please bring it. All other supplies and tools will be provided. Won't you help us put our best foot forward for West Park?

We will meet in front of Walgreens (look for the big trailer) at 10 a.m. Following the work, KCDC will provide some light refreshments and snacks.

If you can't make it out to lend a hand, how about doing a little spring cleanup near your yard? Sweep up any litter or debris on the street, sidewalk, or tree lawn -- and say hi to your neighbors while you're at it.

Grand Opening Party Set for New West Park Historical Society Location

The West Park Historical Society invites the community to the grand opening of their new location at 17401 Lorain Avenue, from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. Free food and refreshments will be available to add to the festivities. While there, note the walls lined with more than 100 historical West Park photographs at the society's new, permanent office. Meet the historical society members, learn more about their mission, and sign up to join. This ground floor location features a meeting room, which is available to rent and holds up to 60 people. To rent the meeting room, call Elaine Staley at 216-267-3857. If needed, leave a voice message and she will get back to you ASAP.

Destination Yarn Comes to Kamm's Corners

"Lake Erie never seems to look the same twice. One day it's an intense navy blue, the next a muddy brown, the next a vibrant green, and in the winter a cool silver." Written by Jeanne Stevenson of Destination Yarn, that description inspired one of the palettes of her themed collections of hand-dyed yarn featured in a unique shop, opening this month at 15708 Lorain Avenue.

Meet this talented artist at an open house on Sunday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. See the working dye studio of an artist who has been creating and selling themed yarn for 10 years from her home. The collections are inspired by her travels and experiences. They include Hocking Hills, Rustic Barn, Coastal Fog, and even Game of Thrones. Click here to view her collections online. See how her passion for travel, fiber arts, and color, produces unique creations for purchase in this new studio.
