Intro to Prayer and Meditation this Sunday, April 15 @ 9:15am!

Did you know meditation guides us into a deeper life with God, enabling us to pray on-target prayers and helping us to know more deeply the ways of God?   A meditation practice tunes you in, helps you get in touch with the Holy Spirit, and find peace from within. Join Karen Bruno for an introduction session to Prayer and Meditation on April 15 at 9:15AM in the Upper Room (second floor across from Choir room).  The session will start with a breathing exercise followed by a prayer-based meditation, and will conclude with a group discussion. We will be offering the following prayer and meditation hours as follows; feel free to come to any or all as your interest and schedule dictate!

GENTLE VINYASA FLOW AT WAYNE CHURCH!
Starting Thursday, April 19 at 6:30pm in Fellowship Hall, (lower level) there will be a gentle vinyasa flow class led by Karen Bruno. All are welcome to come and be guided through 60 minutes of gentle vinyasa flow followed by a short meditation in relaxing poses. This is a great class for students looking for a more gentle experience, new to yoga, or for those with injuries or limitations for ages 18 and up. Please bring your own mat, if possible. Classes will continue every Thursday evening through June 14. Donation is $5 per class, plus a food item for the food pantry.   All proceeds go to the Wayne Church Food Pantry.
LADIES’ NEXT BOOK SELECTION!
All ladies of the church are invited to include The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver as part of their summer reading. We will get together in late August to discuss. There will be used copies and an audio version available soon.

About the book: Kingsolver's ambitious new novel, her first after the The Poisonwood Bible , focuses on Harrison William Shepherd, the product of a divorced American father and a Mexican mother. After getting kicked out of his American military academy, Harrison spends his formative years in Mexico in the 1930s in the household of Diego Rivera; his wife, Frida Kahlo; and their houseguest, Leon Trotsky, who is hiding from Soviet assassins. After Trotsky is assassinated, Harrison returns to the U.S., settling down in Asheville, N.C., where he becomes an author of historical potboilers (e.g., Vassals of Majesty ) and is later investigated as a possible subversive. Narrated in the form of letters, diary entries and newspaper clippings, the novel takes a while to get going, but once it does, it achieves a rare dramatic power that reaches its emotional peak when Harrison wittily and eloquently defends himself before the House Un-American Activities Committee (on the panel is a young Dick Nixon). Employed by the American imagination, is how one character describes Harrison, a term that could apply equally to Kingsolver as she masterfully resurrects a dark period in American history with the assured hand of a true literary artist.

5th Sunday Community Service Worship
Sunday, April 29, 2018 @ 9:15AM!
Every month that has a 5th Sunday, The Gathering Place offers the opportunity to worship through service in place of the regular 9:15AM Gathering. Everyone in our church and community are invited to participate in these 5th Sunday worship experiences.
(Our regular 10:30AM worship service will always take place as usual on these 5th Sundays.)

On Sunday, April 29, we will be constructing personalized health kits for distribution to the homeless in our region through our Chosen 300 Team. Everyone is welcome to join in this effort and there will be tasks suitable for all ages. Please consider joining us in worshiping our God through service!

Homeless people often go without the basic necessities most of us take for granted. In the struggle to find food and a safe place to sleep, they find it difficult to acquire basic items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, and toothbrushes. Rarely do they receive the hygiene supplies necessary to maintain their health and confidence. Access to these basic personal supplies can give them a greater sense of self and a brighter outlook on life.
  THE NEXT CHOSEN 300 DINNER
Our next Chosen 300 dinner, on April 28, will be supported by our Confirmation Class as part of their service project. If the team needs additional help, we will send a request to the rest of the congregation closer to the date.   If you are interested in participating in this wonderful ministry please reach out to Kimm Ebersole and Agnes Fischer.
WOMEN'S GROUP HELPING YOUNG LIVES, MAY 3*!
*Please note the date change!* The women of our church will be helping an organization called Young Lives . It is a Christian organization who helps teen moms.  They hold a “club” every week with leaders who fellowship with them and share the gospel.  We will be cooking the meal for about 25 people, delivering it to Phoenixville, serving, and helping with babysitting during the club.

PICTURES FOR THE CHURCH DIRECTORY!
Everyone loves looking at pictures, including the ones in the church directory! If you already have a picture listed, consider updating it with an updated candid shot, those are our favorites! If you don’t have one listed, please submit a fun photo for your church family to enjoy!  Thank you for your help!
FIRST QUARTER FINANCE UPDATE!
First quarter revenue was $235,000 versus first quarter expenses of $196,000.    Consistent with prior years, revenue exceeded expenses in the first quarter due to advanced payments of 2018 pledges.    Expenses were in-line with expectations with the exception of higher utility costs due to weather.    For the time being, the $39,000 first quarter surplus is being used to replenish reserves following a decline in 2017 due to the sanctuary renewal costs and operating deficit.   Finally, we are in search of a volunteer with a finance background that is willing to work with church staff in developing financial reports.   Please contact Pastor Tom is you have interest.
