Sherman College Now Issuing
Digital Diplomas

Upon checking their text messages after graduation, the June graduating class may just find a pleasant surprise: their diplomas. Beginning with its June 2019 class, Sherman College now issues eDiplomas to students. This technology sends new graduates a digital version of their diploma to download and share on social media, via email, and even with employers. Graduates will continue to receive printed diplomas at the commencement ceremony and/or by mail.

The college collaborates with Parchment Award for its secure, portable eDiplomas. Sherman College is among the service’s early adopters, along with Duke University, Texas A&M, University of Central Missouri, Saint Leo University, Clark Atlanta University, University of Nebraska Omaha and more. Parchment also provides Sherman College’s online transcript services.

“Keeping up-to-date with technology is crucial for Sherman College and its students,” said Sherman College Registrar Melody Sabin, B.A., explaining that the move is a win-win. “We can now give students the power to own and share their academic qualifications in a digital format, and it helps simplify the college’s processes. We know they’ll be excited to share their accomplishments with family and friends around the world.”
Spartanburg Colleges, Sheriff's Office Hold Safe Campus Summit

Determined to keep Spartanburg’s seven college campuses as safe as possible, College Town institutions joined forces with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for a half-day program on June 20, bringing together representatives from campus security, facilities, and communications for training and collaboration. The program, held at Sherman College, included active shooter training, public relations pointers for working with the media, round table discussions and plenty of time for cross-campus relationship building.

“Our goal today was to meet, train, share common practices, and identify and fix any breaks or lapses we collectively may have regarding campus safety,” said Sherman College Director of Facilities and Campus Security Patrick Lausier, who organized the summit. “Our ultimate goal is to keep our people safe.”

The colleges plan to continue this collaborative effort in the coming months and wishes to thank Master Deputy Darren Dukes and Lieutenant Kevin Bobo of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department for sharing their time and expertise. College Town is comprised of Converse College, Sherman College of Chiropractic, Spartanburg Community College, Spartanburg Methodist College, USC Upstate, VCOM and Wofford College.

Ambassador Spotlight:
Ali Fitzgerald of Goshen, MA

Education: Bachelor of Science in Health Science, Nutrition Option

Activities/Hobbies: I love playing sports, being outdoors, and hanging with friends!

Why Chiropractic: When I was in high school, I had a sports-related back injury. After months of agony and advice that did not help, I visited a chiropractor. My first experience with a D.C. was not great. However, after a few more weeks I saw a different doctor, and it was a life-changing experience. It was then I knew that I wanted to be a great chiropractor – someone able to help everyone!

Why Sherman: One of my favorite things about Sherman is the family dynamic that has been created through the faculty, staff, doctors and students. Everyone here wants the best for everyone around them. If you are ever in need of anything or have a question, someone is always right around the corner and willing to help.

Favorite thing about the Upstate Region: I love how diverse the area is. I am able to go to the city, hike in the woods, swim in a lake or lay by the pool, all in one day! I also still get to see professional sports teams from home play around here every once in a while!
