Camps fill spring calendar with special events
Finally, we can look forward to spectacular, sunny spring weather this weekend! That's a great invitation to get outside and enjoy nature, God's gift of Creation; and there's no better place than at our Camp & Retreat Centers. Check out a new story posted today on our website about exciting spring events that our four camps are planning for April and May, including two fun events happening this weekend.
Innabah Camp & Retreat Center
will make the most of this weekend's spring weather by hosting its annual Spring 5k Trail Run/Walk on Saturday, April 14, at 9 AM. The course includes dirt trails and gravel roads, along with a few paved sections, but also gorgeous landscapes with rolling terrain above scenic French Creek in Chester County. All proceeds benefit summer camp programs and scholarship funds. And back by popular demand is a delightful pancake and bacon breakfast in the dining hall.
Also, Gretna Glen Camp & Retreat Center will hold its next Free Youth Night Sunday, April 15, from 4 to 6:30 PM. It will be the last gathering of the season, where middle and high school youth get to enjoy a fun evening of activities, faith building and snacks.
Coming up very soon
are more special, spring events, including:
- Spring workdays when volunteers help prepare the four sites for summer camp.
- Open houses to show off our camps with tours, demonstrations, games, entertainment, fellowship, food and fun activities.
- Pocono Plateau's annual Dangerous Retreat for Boys (and Dads),the weekend ofApril 27-29.
- Gretna Glen's 6th annual Gretna Gritty, May 12mud fun-run fundraiser;
- Carson Simpson Farm's Camp Night for Parents next Thursday evening, April 19, and also its annual Disciple Training and Little Critters Camp Visit, both on May 12.
Carson Simpson will also focus its annual "CSF Kids Give Back" program on helping Puerto Rico recover from 2017's devastating Hurricane Maria. In its "Camper to Camper" initiative young campers and their families will fill up and bring their donation banks to church each week. Their funds, collected all summer, will go to help restore the severely damaged Camp Bishop Fred P. Corson in Jayuya, Puerto Rico.

Church to host armed intruder protocols training
The Trustees of
Evansburg UMC
(3871 Germantown Pike, Collegeville, PA) will host an Armed Intruder Preparation and Response Training led by the Rev. Mark Beiderman on Wednesday, April 18, from 1:30 to about 4:30 PM.
Beiderman is trained and offers churches expert instruction in
ALICE
(Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) protocols to help them plan and prepare for responding proactively to armed, aggressive intruders or active shooter events. He will cover the basics and but also offer "Beyond ALICE training" insights. The training will last about 3 hours.

Sunday, April 15th is "Native American Ministries Sunday" in The United Methodist Church. I hope that every church will take a special offering to aid Native American seminary students and the many wonderful ministries that are happening in our Committees on Native American Ministries (CONAMs). More importantly, I hope on that Sunday people will learn something about this vitally important part of our church's witness to its past, present and future.
