Dear Sato Supporter,

I can't believe it is already November. No matter what 2020 has thrown our way, you helped us continue to save hundreds of lives and impact thousands more. Please keep reading below for a link to our newly published program update report to learn more, as well as additional highlights from this month, including an exciting feature on Good Morning America.

The year is not over yet and our team is on the ground in Puerto Rico right now still working hard to make as big of a difference as possible. We could not do this work without you. Thank you for always having our back and helping us fight every day for the dogs who need us.

In gratitude,

-- Chrissy Beckles, President & Founder

In case you missed it!
See us on Good Morning America
On October 29th, we were honored to have our rescue efforts featured on Good Morning America alongside our 'Rescue Roast' partner Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co. Click on the video above to see the great piece that helped share our beloved satos with even more of the country. Our team is always excited to have our work shared with new audiences. The more people who know about the abandoned dogs of Puerto Rico, the more who can help us save them.

Even though our ‘Rescue Roast’ partnership has ended you can still support our efforts through Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co. Shop their entire site and get an extra 15% off with code 'TheSatoProject.' 10% of all purchases with this code will be donated back to our efforts to rescue more dogs.
Read About Our 2020 Impact in Newly Published Report
From ongoing earthquakes to COVID-19, 2020 has been filled with an unprecedented number of challenges. However, thanks to the generous support of our community, The Sato Project has continued to make a life-saving impact for the abandoned dogs of Puerto Rico and the entire island. So far in 2020, we have:

  • Flown 882 dogs and cats rescued from the streets of Puerto Rico to new lives on the mainland (and we are on track to pass 1,000 before the end of the year!)
  • Completed 16 Freedom Flights, including the largest ever in our nine year history
  • Distributed 34,000 lbs of disaster relief supplies across the island
  • Spayed/neutered and vaccinated 1,031 dogs and cats
  • Organized an emergency collaboration of more than 10 organizations in Puerto Rico and on the mainland to evacuate 256 dogs and cats from the epicenter of the earthquakes only three weeks after the crisis began
  • And so much more...

Read more about all the accomplishments that you helped us achieve in our newly published program update report: From Dog Rescue to Disaster Relief: The Sato Project & 2020. The 16-page report includes more information on all of the programs mentioned above, as well as stories of some of the lives these programs helped change.

Last Call for Merchandise
It is not too late to order The Sato Project merchandise! Masks, beanies, T-shirts, and a limited edition blue hoodie are available through November 23rd only. We use Custom Ink’s fundraisers as a means to make our T-shirts and other merchandise available without requiring our small staff to directly handle inventory or fulfillment. After each campaign ends, all products will be produced in bulk and then shipped, usually shipping within 10 days - just in time for holiday gifts.

The proceeds of every purchase supports our efforts to rescue more homeless satos from the streets of Puerto Rico. Click here or on the image below to see all of the merchandise options.
Momma's Howling Success
We already shared Momma’s rescue story back in August. Now we want you to see the end result of the dream that you helped make possible. Left: Momma and her puppies when they were first discovered in a junkyard. Right: Momma in her new life of long naps in her parents' safe and loving arms.
This young mum was found trying to survive in a junkyard while nursing six tiny puppies. One of our volunteers had to work hard to gain her trust so we could rescue all seven of them. After coming into our care, we originally named her Luna, however, she was such an amazing and doting mother, that her name naturally transitioned into Momma. The entire family gradually completed our thorough vetting protocols and was scheduled to fly together on a Freedom Flight at the end of August. However, due to a medical concern, Momma needed to stay behind and wait for our flight in October. Fortunately, she had adoptive parents who had no second thoughts about waiting the extra time for her arrival. Lauren and Jon knew Momma was the dog for them: "We fell in love with her sad eyes and heartbreaking story and wanted nothing more than to give her a good home and for her to feel loved and safe for the rest of her life."

When she finally arrived in October, it was love at first sight all around. Momma was renamed Molly and Lauren says that she made such a smooth transition into her new life with them that “it’s been a dream.” She loves to cuddle so much that their initial “no dogs on the couch” rule quickly went out the window. When not cuddling, she enjoys prancing around her yard, running up to greet her neighbors when on walks and regularly pulling every single toy out of her toy basket. Thanks to our Facebook group for sato adopters, Lauren and Jon have even been able to stay in touch with some of Molly’s puppies' adopters. She has only been in her new life for about five weeks, but her parents already say that “Molly has made us so endlessly happy in the short time she has been with us!” And we have no doubt that Molly is endlessly happy with Lauren and Jon as well. Thank you to our entire community for helping this sweet mother's dreams finally come true.
As Molly enjoys her cozy world of sweaters, love, and unlimited toys, her parents never want to forget about where she originally came from. They even bought her a special dog tag featuring a moon and six stars to represent her story of starting out as Luna, an abandoned mother of six. The special tag reminds them of her long journey before she became Molly, the spoiled sato they adore today. This reminder just makes them want to spoil her even more in every moment.
The Sato Project is dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico, where there are an estimated 500,000 stray dogs and a combined 94% euthanasia rate across all municipal shelters. We have rescued over 5,000 dogs, rehabilitated them with the highest standards of veterinary care, and found them loving homes on the mainland U.S.. We are also working to make permanent change on the island through community outreach and a Spay, Neuter, Vaccinate and Microchip Program.
"We fight so the dogs of Puerto Rico don't have to."
