The Wave
April 13, 2018

Happy Friday!  This morning the kids were surprised by donuts as a treat for everyone successfully turning in an outline for their IP paper!  That is step one.  The next step is finishing the notes and drafting the rough draft, step 2, due next Thursday. This afternoon we are giving all IP groups work time for 2 hours to help them get a good step forward and hopefully take the weekend to themselves.

I want to shout out to our fearless TRCS Board, who have been meeting and considering so many qualified candidates for the Administrator position.   They are still in the stages of conversations and making determinations about each of these very qualified candidates.  We are excited to see how many people would LOVE to work at TRCS - YES - I believe it.  It is a brilliant school.

Thank you also goes out to Hank Harris, who is guiding the search and who you all met at the January State of the School.  Everything is going great and the board promises to update everyone as we are able.

TRCS is getting between 10 - 20 phone calls a day for folks that would like to join next year.  We have such a successful business/school - I want to thank the board for their support and care of TRCS as we continue to move forward into our future.

Thank you...and have a great weekend.

Smarter Balanced Assessments
Our belief about testing is that it is a part of our lives. Getting into colleges, becoming a CPA, any online class, driving a car - all involve testing that is electronic. From the tiny experiences to the full blown SAT, your kids will be prepared - not stressed - from experiencing these types of assessments. We use them to provide an "apples to apples" approach to progress of students from year to year.  What we know for sure is:  OUR CURRICULUM CHALLENGES STUDENTS! These tests are all part of that higher expectation. Students at TRCS do very well on the testing, a good part of that is due to your work at home with your kids and the talented teaching staff partnered with you. We provide the training for kids to be successful - NOT STRESSED - on these types of tests.  They are not going to get "away from them", but rather we are helping them to cope effectively through them.  What you can do for us is:

1.  Watch the Wave and know when testing is coming for your kids.
2.  Get them to school on time!
3.  Provide a healthy breakfast each morning!

Without a doubt, this is a team effort and one that is headed to the  future.
Carnival Update!
Last night the parent group met to begin planning the TRCS Carnival.  Thank you to all those who came with such great ideas and energy!  The next carnival meeting is going to be held at TRCS on April 23rd at 8:00 am.  Please stop in after drop off and join us in planning this magical last day of school.  Bring your ideas for carnival booths! We look forward to seeing you on April 23rd.

Attendance & Testing
Schools all across Oregon are Smarter Balanced testing this spring. We will begin with practice tests in Language Arts and Math classes next week. This will familiarize students with the interface of the testing and help them to know what to expect. Testing begins on April 24th. Please help us by not scheduling any appointments during the school day for the next several weeks - keep your kids at school so that this testing season can run smoothly for teachers & students! Thank you!

Spring Conferences
We want to thank all of the parents that came out on Monday to talk with our teachers about your students! It was such a joy to share the successes and progress of the students! We also thank the teachers for staying late that night to meet with parents!
Being at School is Huge!
We ask that you limit the out of town trips to the summer or weekends.  This time of year, actually anytime of year, it becomes very tough to make up the time that students miss in class. The teaching is what is missed. Between testing and IP, we just want to have all kids at school with trips and appointments to a minimum. Thank you for your understanding and help keeping your kids in school, engaged and learning.
