Stricter Regulations Around Ethylene Oxide Emissions; Impact Across the Chemical Supply Chain
Two bills passed in Illinois could be used as benchmark for other states and regions
Dear SOCMA Members,

Earlier this week, the state of Illinois signed onto  the most stringent limits for Ethylene Oxide (EO) emissions in the country, which comes on the heels of increased regulatory activity from other states. The regional offices of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have also  focused attention on EO manufacturers and users alike, specifically as it relates to EHS regulatory oversight . Our industry colleagues from the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois are closely monitoring the situation and have published a summary of the bills.

How does this impact you?
The recently enacted Illinois legislation could be used as a benchmark for other states and regions. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is expected to release its assessment of EO on June 28. Impacts are both direct and indirect. For example, intermediates derived from EO, containing possible residual content may fall under regulation.
